Which handbag should I buy?

Fed up with changing bags, and had DS2 last month so decided to treat myself to a new non-changing bag bag. I will still be keeping all the baby change stuff in it so it needs to be fairly roomy.

Other criteria are:
Has to have some way of clipping to pram handle clips - ie D-rings or similar
Needs to not clash horribly with khaki Bugaboo Bee
Would like it to be something I will still want to use when I'm past the stage of lugging nappies etc around, especially if I buy something pricey.

I've seen a couple so far:
Big slouchy leather Boden one, possibly in pink
Cath Kidston saddle bag
This Boden PVC satchel

My heart says the first but my head says something more practical. The Cath Kidston ones seem to have really good resale on ebay, so if I was fed up with it I could easily replace it which I don't think is true of the other two.

Which would you get - any of the above, or something completely different?

Two or three!

moondog · 01/09/2010 16:28

1 is the nicest. That CK print is soooo overexposed and a pvc bag will crack and split.

apple99 · 01/09/2010 17:00

The first one is the nicest.

EldonAve · 01/09/2010 17:03

first one is the best

AllarmBells · 01/09/2010 17:04

The first one. The prints are mumsy IMHO, a waste of the opportunity to have a "non-changing bag bag".
Do you live near a TKMaxx? They are fab for handbags, on a good day...

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 01/09/2010 17:39

I am in the same position as you and I almost bought the first one as a nappy bag that's not a nappy bag. Would you really wear the second one or third one if you didn't have to?

OUshka do lovely slouchy big leather handbags

I have also gone retro the multi one for days when I need extra space.

This is on my list as well

HOWEVER saying all that, I am seriously tempted by this beauty despite it being a nappy bag

If you want to splash the cash then these are highly recommended as nappy bags that don't look like nappy bags, expensive but they do come up occasionally on ebay for about half price i.e. here

I think two and three still look like changing bags if you've got a pushchair with you. Especially CK as they do changing bags.
Still OK though.

The first one doesn't have a zip so all sorts of stuff will fall out of it when you sling your bag around.
And you'll never want to use it after DS2 is out of nappies etc. ever again.

I have a very unglamourous(?) Gap bag with lots of handy zips etc. and as stuff always leaks and have a separate beautiful handbag.

Anything here?

BettyButterknife · 01/09/2010 22:14

Ah, it's so tricky. There are lots of actual changing bags I really like, such as some of the Storksaks: Emily in leather, Kate and Jess, or the Pacapod Phoenix but they all seem so expensive for a changing bag! Whereas I would consider spending that money on a normal handbag as I'd consider it an investment I could use for years to come.

That's why I'm wondering whether the Cath Kidston is the best option, as it's practical, and when I'm done with it (and I'm sure I will be sick of the sight of it, as you say morag) I can sell it on ebay without losing too much money, whereas changing bags such as the ones I've mentioned above don't seem to hold their value as much. I guess it's a smaller market.

What about the Cath Kidston one in the spot pattern... - less obviously mumsy?

Cath Kidston is never the best option for a bag, it's the post pregnancy fug talking. Don't do it. Please.

BettyButterknife · 10/09/2010 11:09

In the end, I got hold of a Storksak Elizabeth on eBay, for £100 less than RRP. Hooray!

Thanks again :)

Def the first but i would get it in Brown not pink.

Orla Kiely does gorgeous bags, I have three Blush the best being a brown leather one (not disimilar to that Boden one) that I use all the time.

what about this

whoneedssleepanyway · 10/09/2010 16:16

that will teach me not to read to the end of a thread....just seen you have bought one Blush

moragbellingham · 10/09/2010 16:33

The Storksak is lovely - bit of a cross between handbag and changing bag.
Bet it has a good resale value tooWink.
