Going to my friends 30th in 3 weeks a wanted a nice dress that is not too formal but is also warm. She is having a party in the garden with a marquee. Do you think this dress would suit a chubby hourglass? I am about a 14 on top and 14-16 on the bottom and short with it (5ft 3). As it is in the garden heels won't work so need flats and a little bit of jewellery - don't like wearing much and don't have pierced ears.

What do you think?

Nearly every time I start a thread on style and beauty I get no replies.

This makes me sad.

Is my taste in clothing so appalling that you can't even bring yourselves to answer?

Don't be such a drama queen!

Well I think the dress is lovely and was thinking just yesterday of ordering the purple version Smile. And I'm a slightly tubby hourglass too.

What about metallic shoes/accessories? Or a contrasting colour like red or purple?

nowherewoman · 01/09/2010 14:31

I'm not sure whether it would suit you, cos I'm not very good at that sort of thing, but i like the dress. What about a different colour though, or did you really want black?

traceybath · 01/09/2010 14:35

Right well I prefer the teal version or purple - don't do black its too dull.

I'd go for a statement necklace, a clutch and some metallic wedges perhaps.

Its a nice style and would suit your shape.

bananapeanutbutter · 01/09/2010 14:52

I quite like it and think it would suit you (I have a friend the same shape as you and has a similar dress - looks v good on her).

I prefer the black (but that's just personal taste). Must wear coloured or metallic accessories with it though if you are going to a wedding. I'd pick one colour and buy shoes, bag, cuff, necklace whatever in that colour.

I would definitely choose wedges or thick heels over flats. Flats will make the dress look too casual.

Woohoo thank you!

Was being a bit tongue in cheek there bunny - not really crying myself to sleep every night Wink

Good Grin. I do know how you feel though. I've had a few threads on here go unanswered and it's led to me buying all sorts of dodgy impulse items Grin.

I agree with the others about the wedges. Much dressier but still garden friendly Smile.

Hmmm any ideas on the wedges? I am rubbish with shoes.....
