Can you stand another coat thread?

A few years ago, I bought a grey wool short coat in H&M. I loved it very much. It was warm and comfy and went with everything. Alas, the lining is now in tatters so the coat has gone to the charity shop Sad and I need a replacement.

I want something that I can wear to work (the casual end of smart/casual) and at home (when I usually wear jeans).

I saw the Boden Greenwich Reefer which I loved but am now having second thoughts about as am large-boobed and pear shaped and I'm not sure that double-breasted is the best move...

Then I got the Great Plains catalogue today and saw the Cupid Jacket. The shape is better but it might be a bit girly with the bows on the pockets.

There's also the Gap classic peacoat which is double-breasted again but I think I might be able to pull this one off and it's got a nice, classic style that I like. I'd probably get it in navy though.

What's the Mumsnet consensus? Anything else good (in a similar style, £150 max) out there?

I saw this the other day and loved it. Didn't dare try it on though as I don't have £150 for a coat, mores the pity.

This looked nice too, but is longer and bit more frou frou.

BornToFolk · 31/08/2010 21:30

Oooh, those are nice! The second one is gorgeous in red.

Zara do a basics range that normally have this style in every year.
I bought one for about £50 a couple of years ago, they'll be online soon I think.

featherblue · 01/09/2010 16:45

I bought that Gap peacoat last week in navy, and I absolutely adore it. I find it really flattering, and it feels much more expensive than it is.

Franup · 01/09/2010 18:10

30% off gap vouchers have been sent out on email today for use next week as well...

BornToFolk · 01/09/2010 18:12

How can I get my hands on one of those Gap vouchers?

OP posts:
ValiumSingleton · 01/09/2010 18:16

Definitely! I saw a beautiful red jigsaw coat in the sunday times magazine but it's not on line yet. I like it, so long as it's not too santa red.

must have a look at zara on line.

My inspiration this winter is Blair Waldorf. She has such beautiful coats. But I have seen NOTHING that comes close.

OllieWollieWoo · 01/09/2010 18:23

New in at H&M (Dutch site as UK not live yet but ignore the goobledegook and look at pic!) here?

OllieWollieWoo · 01/09/2010 18:25

I like this from New Look too but no idea re how warm it is!

Why haven't I had my Gap voucher? Sob.

BornToFolk · 01/09/2010 19:13

OllieWollieWoo, the one called Korte Jas on the H&M site is v similar to my old favourite.

I think I might need two new winter coats...

OllieWollieWoo · 01/09/2010 20:18

BTF - you can NEVER have too many winter coats! Smile.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/09/2010 20:25

I just wish they'd make a few more attractive coats in a single-breasted style.

I look blocky and awful in a double-breasted coat, but rarely do I find a nice shapely style with just one row of buttons!

I did get one from monsoon a couple of years ago, which is quite swingy but somehow still military (almost Russian stylee), but I've lost weight and it swims on me now.

< dreads the hours of endless fruitless coat-shopping trips >

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/09/2010 20:27

Ooh found this but it's The Wrong Shade Of Green - too olive for me.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/09/2010 20:37

And [[http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=33057&storeId=12556&categoryId=209752&parent_category_rn=208526&productId=1900496&langId=-1&siteID=0RpXOIXA500-bKHrG5QLxnndHvD1eJJuyA&cmpid=ukls_deeplink&_$ja=tsid:19906 this is D-B but looks quite neat and curvy.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/09/2010 20:44

Omg this is the one for me! how will I go on?!

< talking to myself >

BornToFolk · 01/09/2010 21:35

WWWY - Grin

Which TopShop one were you trying to link to? There are some seriously good ones on there...

Check Swing Coat is yummy but polyester.

I love this too

and this

OP posts:
partyhats · 01/09/2010 21:39

WhatsWrongWithYou - I love that one! I like a lot of the coats on that site, unfortunately way out of my price range! Why is it impossible to find a knee length fashionable coat on the high st. The designers all seem to be doing longer coats this season but everything in the shops is still above the knee or thigh length, they just don't suit me. I am not a giant, only 5ft 7in.

FranSanDisco · 01/09/2010 21:45

WhatsWrongWithYou - how could you have linked to that - gorgeous and expensive Sad. Nothing else will come near now but my student loan is dueWink.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/09/2010 21:57

Sorry this was the Topshop one.
Found more but can only do one link per post Blush.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/09/2010 22:06

Maxmara.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/09/2010 22:08

Sorry I've got carried away and just realised the OP was looking for something entirely different. Will go away.

Franup · 01/09/2010 22:10

BtoF I can send 5 Gap vouchers to my friends, and hey, you seem nice enough. Problem is I am an interloper on mumsnet and haven't paid for that £5 CAT thingymijiggy, I hang out on another forum normally...

If I can soften the blow, if you like the FCUK ones I linked to, then company mag costs £2 and has 20% off online code for use in FCUK next week!

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/09/2010 22:20

Erm I think you might have posted on the wrong thread.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 01/09/2010 22:25

I brought This in grey and Purple at the weekend, it fits like a dram and its really warm. Smile
