Are Underwired Bras OK?

I am now 21 weeks and my bust has grown from 32DD to a 34E.

This is fine, but when I went to get measured and buy a new bra in M&S the lady serving me was horrified when I said I wanted an underwired bra. Having been made to feel like I was trying to buy heroin, I promptly went to another shop and bought an underwired bra in my new size and it looks and feels fab.

I have one maternity bra from Mothercare and although it's in the right size I hate it because it's less comfortable and a lot less flattering than my 'normal' new underwired one. I always wore underwired before being pregnant because of the fit and support.

My midwife said badly fitting underwired bras can damage breast tissue, but mine fits fine. I do want to breastfeed when baby arrives - surely I'm not doing any harm to my future milking equipment?

Had exactly the same experience from M and S all be it 11 yrs ago! I ignored them and bf-ed dd for 12 months. With ds 2 yrs ago I actually bought under-wired feeding bras, fed til 8.5 months with him.
IMO is if it fits well its fine, and much better than feeling rubbish, not confident etc Smile

never buy bras form motehrcare, they are all shite

well-fitting underwires are fine but you may chnage size every 6wks so check regualary and be prepared to shell out

Underwired bras can become uncomfortale as your bump becomes bigger in the final trimester. The wire should fit flush to the skin under your breast. If this is the case,it is fine.

By baby no.3 I had decided that I was doing pregnancy and breasfeeding fully underwired and brought 2 Anita underwired nursing bras, see figleaves to purchase. They are expensive and not that wonderful in the style stakes. But they did the trick and lasted. I breastfed for a long time!

As the other poster says, make sure the underwire is on your rib cage and not cutting into any breast tissue. If you get any sore bits on your boobs now or later or they rub at all, stop wearing them.

Better brands of non underwired nursing bras are Royce and Bravissimo, so get these if you don't want to go down the underwired route.

I wore underwire bras throughout most of my 3 pgs and had no problem bf. They did get a bit tight during the last month or so, but were fine up until then. You'll know if it's squashing you!!
