AIBU to believe that empire line only looks good from the front?

I am fed up with trying on things which turn out to be empire line and look OK head on, but from the side make me look like a weight-lifter in a dress..

My theory is backed up by having just watched all the BBC Pride and Prejudice series where all the women look pretty wide from the side...And I'm sure they are all thin as rakes really.

YANBU - empire line makes me look pregnant from the side.

Shaz10 · 28/08/2010 22:58

Empire line never fitted me as it starts too high on my boobs. Looks like I may have had a lucky escape!

HouseOfBamboo · 28/08/2010 23:01

yanbu - empire line is shitey, especially for pear shapes.

Katisha · 28/08/2010 23:04

And yet every tunic-type thing that the archetypical pear-shape thinks may be just the thing - turns out to be effing empire line!
(Take note White Stuff.)

Susannah Harker was about 4-5 months pregnant when filming most of that, though...

Katisha · 28/08/2010 23:11

Yes that is true, but they ALL look pregnant. Or like shot putters.

I think my issue is with the shoulder area rather than the stomach actually. Unless you are v v thin round the shoulders/upper arms, empire line really accentuates that area somehow. Especially when viewed from the side.

Yes the shoulder thing is true too. It's about time they bloody went OUT OF FASHION.
