Never had my nails done before. Don't like acrylic or gel nails, the look nor the removal.

So I was in having my lashes permed and the lady who did them said they were doing half price shellac.

Goes on like normal polish but its gel based, uv lamp between layers to set, dry and glossy straight away, lasts 14 days! Removed like nail polish too, no buffing!

I love it. It'll even last longer than 14 days it's just you'll see regrowth.

So go get it done. Full price it was 25quid including full manure, or 18 for file and polish. Oh and get your lashes permed too!

MN never fails to disappoint. I came on here to see if there was anything about Shellac and lo and behold.... (does that happen to everyone I wonder?)

Anyway, got my nails done last Friday and still looking fab. I've got two kids (dd 9m, ds 3) so I'm changing nappies, cleaning etc etc so this is pretty darn impressive.

I'm no high maintenance gal but these nails having definitely got me hooked.

Only downside (that I can see) is that once you've picked your colour you're stuck with it until you take it off. No bother with a french manicure but I personally couldn't handle an in-your-face bright colour for two weeks.

LynetteScavo · 27/08/2010 21:23

You can varnish over it though, with another colour, as long as you remove with non-acetone remover.

Meglet · 27/08/2010 21:24

My waxing lady told me about this and it sounds fab but she said you can't get oil on it? Is that true?

How would I manage without handcream and getting olive oil on my fingers?

LynetteScavo · 27/08/2010 21:25

They say it's easier to remove than OPI Axxium. You'll have to let me know!

rufus101 · 27/08/2010 21:48

I got it done on my toes! Amazing, not a chip 5 weeks later. Only reason I'm taking it off is the regrowth!

ruddynorah · 27/08/2010 22:51

Don't know about oil. I do oil cleansing method to wash my face and have found no problem. Had it done Wednesday.

Yes she said you can put other colour on top if you want. I just went for the cappuccino, not into reds so much. Might try French manure next time.

What? What is this, and how have I never heard of it?

RipMacWinkle · 28/08/2010 20:03

I've been putting on hand cream and using my burt's bees lemon cuticle oil without any bother?!

Aah, can't believe I didn't even think about painting another layer on top. Yup that'd work if I ever got a brighter colour.

Over a week now and I'm still loving it.

AnyFuleKno · 28/08/2010 20:19

friggin 25 quid?! for nail varnish?

Shhhh · 28/08/2010 23:08

Personally can't seen how his is different from gel nails..?

I visit my local nails inc nail bar and have gel nails. No extensions and have what they call a 3 week manicure. Last 3 weeks + , doesn't damage my nails, is a colour or natural and easily removed....

ruddynorah · 29/08/2010 13:30

Yes it is a lot. I only had it as it was half price, never had a manure before. I have been seduced though and would have it again. In my job it is nice to have groomed nails that won't scuff with all the lifting and shifting.

I gather gel nails are stuck on? They have to be buffed off don't they? I have no idea really, but I love this!

See thats why I can't see the difference ruddynorah...

I have gel nails, they are painted on as you would nail polish and 2-3 coats are applied. They are cured/set under a uv light... all as done with the shellac.. To remove the "varnish/gel" you apply acetone direct to the nail via a cotton pad and the "varnish/gel" comes away. Scraps away very easily...

I can see its better than acrylic and tips but not sure difference with what I have.

Don't get me wrong RN I also love the idea and would love to try it (im a sucker for new things !) but think its very similar to what I have.

I have either french or coloured and it lasts upto and sometimes beyond 3 weeks....

My nails continue to grow and have zero damage...

Hmmm............ maybe some nail bod will be along to advise us!!

ruddynorah · 30/08/2010 20:14

no idea!

is it different?
