I have been sent a joules catalogue and wondered if anyone had bought anything from here, and if so, is it any good?

I have bought children's clothes and dh has bought shorts from them this Summer. I consider their stuff to be good quality though a little expensive.

Ladyem · 26/08/2010 12:38

I bought DS some Joules t-shirts from the John Lewis sale for £4.50-£7 each, didn't really take much notice of the brand/original price, they just looked nice but I nearly fell off my chair when I was taking the tags off to wash and saw that one of them should have been £24!!!! Shock They are lovely quality, but I would never pay the full price!! Madness for children's clothes! I have no experience of the adult garments, but I would say wait for the sale!! Wink

Autumndew · 26/08/2010 12:54

The clothes are good quality .Like Boden there are always codes kicking about somewhere don`t buy at full price

CMOTdibbler · 26/08/2010 12:56

v good quality - I've got skirts and tops from there, and ds has quite a lot

animula · 26/08/2010 13:19

I'm a joules fan. Though a little shifty. (It has been soundly mocked on mn!)

Quality is good, and, as I always say, I bought one particular dress from Joules a while back that, every single time I wear it, results in strangers approaching and asking me where it's from.

The children's clothes are cute and hard-wearing.

Sizing is, I would say, generous.

MrsJohnDeere · 26/08/2010 13:27

Quality better than Boden IMO. You have to pick and choose carefully. They often ruin what would otherwise be a lovely top with huge gold buttons, for example.
Delivery a bit slow too.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 26/08/2010 13:29

The sales are better, things are 'normally' priced then, expensive otherwise.

mippy · 26/08/2010 14:38

I bought a dress on there on the sale - fits my boobs perfectly, which a lot of things won't, and seemed very good quality. But a lot of their stuff seems very....horsey...for me. Like the kind of thing you get in specialist boutiques on the Yorkshire Moors called 'Country Life' or 'Jacqueline'. Is this why it's been mocked?

MrsC2010 · 26/08/2010 17:37

I like it, but it has got much pricier over the last few years. I always used to buy their summer dresses as they were a decent length, they were nearly 4 inches shorter this year! (Equivalent style.) I do like some of their prints etc.

MaeMobley · 26/08/2010 23:21

I popped into the shop in Wimbledon Village. It all seemed too pink and turquoise with some very odd buttons. I also hate the fact they stick their logo on the clothes.

moragbellingham · 27/08/2010 09:50

I think they're overpriced but good quality. I got a bit of stuff in a 30% off promo that I found on a MN thread.
Nice fleeces for DCs.

Mrs JD you are so right!
I bought a navy blue MAC for £20 (from £79 or something) with the intention replacing the giant gold buttons.

mamatomany · 27/08/2010 10:35

And you must not match Joules sweater/polo shirt with your baby DD, saw that far too often at sports day/school fete this year.

MrsBadger · 27/08/2010 10:38

kids Joules stuff is a good secondhand buy too - charity shops in horsey places always worth a look

however if I wear it I look like my mother

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 27/08/2010 10:42

I have just been given some Joules wellies with chickens on them. There is no point to this post, other than that I love them and felt like bragging

lucykate · 27/08/2010 10:51

re, the joules logo, i bought dd some jogging bottoms in the sale, never bought joules before but they were really cheap, anyway, i got a bigger size, they are too long, so have altered them and cut off the bit at the bottom with the logo on, was kind of glad to see it go, am another hater of kids clothes with logo's on, next are particularly bad for it. their online sale was good, some kids stuff was massively reduced.

MrsBadger · 27/08/2010 11:11

oh I covet their wellies, esp the brown shiny ones with the bow...

chardom · 27/08/2010 12:28

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! Will give it a go, but I must admit I agree that some of the logos are a bit large and over fussy for my liking!

The swimwear is super high-quality I found. They do a brilliant ruched 50's style one piece which anywhere else this well made would cost a small fortune.

IHeartKingThistle · 27/08/2010 19:20

I'm not usually a fan but fell in love with a dress this year and have worn it and worn it - I bet it's the same one, animula! People always comment on it and how well done the details and things are.

happilyeverafter · 27/08/2010 19:33

I find the clothes great quality although I would prefer less/no branding.

DD has a lot of their stuff, washes beautifully and looks 'special' but I do think it is very overpriced even compared to Boden. Boden often have great codes kicking about whereas Joules seem tighter with the offers.

I was not impressed with the latest catalogue, they may be aiming for aspirational but it came across as farcical. Very overstaged photography and I did not like any of the ladies clothes. It may have been the way they put them together combined with the OTT storyboards but it put me off buying anything from them. Even the kids stuff was made to look very false and trying too hard.

I would recommend their ladies hoodys as being a great buy, excellent quality, good fit and warm. I get one most winters and they last and last.

QueeferSutherland · 27/08/2010 22:42

I get stuff for DSs in there, and the children love the wellies.

The polos are de riguer in these parts. So far I have resisted.

I saw 3 women in the same Joules dress at our village fete. All ages of women too, teen-50ish. The William Morris-ish one.

BikeRunSki · 27/08/2010 22:55

I bought two Joules dresses this summer and love them, wer them all the time, v good quality.

Hate the "catazines" though.

dexter73 · 27/08/2010 23:00

I love the catazines! I think they are hilarious!

happilyeverafter · 27/08/2010 23:53

Dexter it is the catzines that make me splutter.

domesticsluttery · 28/08/2010 20:09

I agree that the catzines are very twee, but in general I love Joules. The boys have the polos and rugby shirts, they are very hard wearing and good for passing down. DD has a lot of Joules clothes. I have a couple of polo shirts, sweatshirts and fleeces and their wellies in both long and short versions. But then I tend to hang out at stables and agricultural shows so it is kind of the uniform!

I was quite pleased though to see a necklace in the A/W range with my (RL) name! It is the kind of name that doesn't crop up very often.
