Brazilian wax question

Hi everyone

I recently had a Brazilian wax for the first time. Although very uncomfortable, i was really pleased with the result. That is, until about 5 days later and i came out in over a dozen ugly red bumps, which i've been told are in-growing hairs. The therapist told me to exfoliate and my friend told me i needed to extract the hairs.

But it was HORRIBLE. They were like big red pimples on my bits: very off-putting for getting intimate Blush.

Does anyone know if this is normal and can i expect this every time. Can i do anything to stop this from being so bad or should i just give up and go back to using veet lol?

Ingrown hairs are normal for waxing yes. Hot compresses help and exfoliating. I usually only get 2/3 per wax though so maybe try someone else?

I have the same problem with waxing, some people are just very prone to ingrown hairs and no amount of exfoliating will make any difference because they are really deep and almost like boils (nice!).

You do need to exfoliate to make sure the skin is clear for them to come out if/when they reach the surface, but a lot of mine I have had to pick/hack out with tweezers, which doesn't really help with the attractive look.

I don't know anyone who has never got them but some aren't as bad as others, so maybe have another couple of waxes and see how it goes, but you might just be an unlucky one like me, I stick to Veet now!

NW20 this is what they looked like for me! I was a bit horrified to be honest.

Its really put me off trying again. I went to this particular salon because of its high reputation. I think i'm just going to be like you and have to stick to veet Confused

Ingrowgo is great, it's a lotion you apply and it to the area and the bumps disappear. Crushed aspirin mixed with water is effective too.

But getting the hairs out is horrible, I have a few scars from hacking away so much to try and get a deep one out!
I think DP would probably see a hairy foo-foo than a massacred one!

Alouieg...i've never heard of this before.

I might give this a go :)

The first wax is always the worst for ingrown hair and pustules . It does get better I promise you.

You'll be a full Hollywood with a set of swarovskis before you know it Wink

Tend Skin very good too.

Bellebelle · 25/08/2010 22:15

Recommend tend skin too. You should use it all the time to prevent ingrown hairs rather than just when the come up, can be a bit drying though so I use every couple days. Smells like nail varnish remover but very effective!

I have Brazilians done. I've only had a couple of ingrowing hairs. Maybe try a different salon?

MaeMobley · 26/08/2010 23:24

Why would a brazilian wax result in pustules/ ingrowing hairs yet this never happens on armpits?

Alouiseg · 26/08/2010 23:27

It can happen anywhere, ive had them in all sorts of places. Blush
