Really GREAT wellies

Where/what are they?

I'm racking my brains for a birthday pressie for my MIL. She's not really into things and they kind of have everything they need really. But she is quite outdoorsy and walks the dog in winter so I thought maybe some really decent, grippy, warm wellies might be nice. I think she wears some £5.99 B&Q ones ATM.

I've heard of Hunter wellies, are they any good?

i prefer aigle to hunters.

i wear my wellies for dog walking in the winter, the aigle ones i have are 'walking' wellies - they are designed on a walking boot.

they are called aigle parcours and are incredibly comfortable, they also do a wider version for the chunkier of leg (they are the the ones i have!).

Are they the kind of thing you need to try on? Say, like you'd have to try on a walking boot to see if it's comfy for your particular shape of foot.

Or if she's a standard five, then a five would be fine. Does that make sense?

Aigles look good.

Is fur lined a bit OTT?

Hunters have very narrow legs, and the soles are not very grippy. I live in my wellies in the autumn and winter. I have www.gardenxl.com/s/town---country-premium-red-wellington-boots/1493/Product.aspx these - great soles, comfy, true to size.

Sorry, these.

Can I join the search? I wanted to start a similar thread but thought wellies and style and beauty were slightly incompatible.

I am looking for replacement wellies, current pair are slightly perished, 2yr old pair from Joules - do any wellies last any longer?

I live in Scotland and I wear them fairly regularly if the weather is bad, so I am looking for a pair of wellies that are not just for show (though I liked the fairly subtle pattern of my Joules wellies, so functional with some colour would be good).

I wear Hunters and love them but have a small foot and fairly slim calf.

Aigle also nice as are Le Chameau.

I would second the Aigle Parcours - bought some for my dad because his Hunters were uncomfortable for him when walking and replaced them with the Parcours which give your foot more support. You can get a neoprene liner for them and I have a friend who swears by hers - apparently you feet never get cold.

Hunters are fine - DS1 lives in his and they last pretty well. I think expensive wellies should last a number of years FiveOrangePips but DH's Le Chameau have started to split after about 5.

I think I'm drawn to the Aigles then. I've sent a link to DP so he can check with his dad whether they'd be any good for MIL.

Thanks all.
