Scarves - help, please!

I have always admired women who wear scarves - I mean the floaty, elegant kind rather than woolly ones. However, the one and only time I wore one someone asked if I'd hurt my neck - not joking.

How do you wear a scarf to create a chic, feminine look? What colours/patterns? What size/length? And where to buy them?

Thanks Smile

I ALWAYS wear scaves - I think I have a bit of a bad Deirdre neck so like to hide it. Plus, I always seem to get cold and instantly feel warmer in a scarf, even when in short sleeves. You can't beat blue jeans/shorts, white plain top, nice scarf for any time of year.

I tend to buy square ones and fold them over into a triangle then put on the opposite way to a cape and bring the 'ends' round the front (if that makes any sense at all), or long ones tied European-style (fold in half, loop one half through other).

Accesorize are good, Next are ok but my fave one of all is only from New Look, sort of tiger-striped but in silver and brown.

Long scarf worn looped once, with long tunic - instant slimming effect :)

In my dreams I have a swan neck, but in reality I have a thick one. I find the most flattering scarves are thin ones and I wear them wrapped once and then hanging loose. The loop thing doesn't suit me as it emphasises the shortness of my neck, and I only wear chunky scarves when I'm too cold to care what I look like.

I just bought a really nice one in Accesorize and can't find it on their website to show you. Angry

Some website accessorise with scarves well.La Redoute has been the most helpful to me.For lightweight scarf ideas look in the sale section.Once you decide how you're going to wear said items then decide on colours - and buy anywhere!.

i think it's about texture - cotton looks like a bandage, cashmere and silk doesn't Wink.
there are some really amazing value cashmere scarves and shawls on this website. and quite a few are lovely lighweight ones perfect for summer and autumn. gorge prints and colours too. I've got the petals print one and wear it all the time to jazz up boring white T and jeans.

Cotton long crinkly scarves have been a summer staple for me.I have a blue/white and pink/white with different colour flowers on them so they go with every shade of blue and pink[and stripes].Don't you find cashmere a bit heavy when its hot?.
