Jo Malone Perfume

My mum has just got back from holiday and has bought me some Jo Malone perfume from the shop in Gatwick. Apparently it's the 'signature scent', which I'm guessing is Lime Basil and Mandarin. Only problem is I can't wear citrus scents. They seem to react with my skin chemistry and end up smelling horrible.

I'm seeing my mum at the weekend and she's going to give me the perfume then. I can't get to the shop beforehand to test it. Does anyone here wear it? Is it very citrus-y? If it is, I might consider not opening it so I can sell it on ebay as I really do need some new perfume but am short of funds. Would this be a terrible thing to do? I feel really bad for my mum, I told her she didn't have to get me anything Sad. I hate the thought of something like that going to waste if I don't like it. My mum only ever wears Rive Gauche so she probably wouldn't want it.

Hi. I have some of this and yes, it is really citrus-y. In fact I have just been upstairs to check and I was surprised that I had forgotten just how citrus-y it is. Don't tell your Mum you are going to flog it, just thank her for the gift and get something you like. In fact, why don't you try taking it back to a department store unopened and say it was a gift and you don't have a receipt....worth a try?

If its the signature scent I would have thought it would be Nutmeg and Ginger, which is gorgeous, I could be wrong though! Lime, Basil and Mandarin is citrussy but not massivly in my opinion - someone else may come along and dispute that of course.

itstheyearzero - that's not good news Sad. When my mum told me she'd got a Jo Malone I thanked her and told her I'd heard rave reviews but secretly I was thinking it's going to be something citrussy.

HarrogateMum - Nutmeg and Ginger sounds a bit nicer. Googling seemed to suggest that the Lime Basil and Mandarin is the signature so that may be more likely.

aha - fair enough. I thought N&G was the first one she created as a gift for people who had her facials. What about saving it and giving it to someone for Christmas (did I just say the C word?)

LBM light and fresh more than citrussy, I'd say.

Coincidentally, my Mum always used to wear Rive Gauche (I can remember the smell giving me a headache as we have totally opposite perfume taste) and I recently bought her some LBM and she loves it, so maybe your Mum might like it? But that's probably why she picked it - because she smelt it and liked it.

Jo Malone mail order v helpful - would they let you return and swap it? They'll also send out testers.

LYM - that's good to know about their customer service.

and HM - the Christmas present idea sounds good too.

They seem to be selling well on ebay so I may consider doing that.

It's quite a strong scent (oh I sound old!) and I think you have to really like it to wear it.
I go through phases of wearing it - much better as a bath oil/soap IMO.

Buy the tester from ebay for about £3?

Zembo · 18/08/2010 21:55

Funny, I have some and it's not strong at all on me. Seems to wear off after about 10 mins. Agree, I MUCH prefer the bath oil which is just heavenly.

FellatioNelson · 22/08/2010 15:36

I don't think the signature scent is LBM - if anything I think it's 154? The duty free shops seem to sell a very limited range though - usually Red Roses and Nutmeg and Ginger, and whatever the newest one is, last time I went it was White Jasmine and Mint.
