Houlihans and heeled hiker boots?

Seem to be everywhere... (I refuse to link to New Look cause I'll go back on later and there won't be any left Hmm)

here

Can I work the look, being 35 and a size 16? (with short legs?) (and a fat arse?) Or should I give them a wide berth? Is this a style best left for slim teenagers?

Try it and see what it looks like. If you look good then go for it.

bishboschone · 15/08/2010 15:24

I am size8- 10 35 and short and have a big bum and small waist. I don't think this look will suit me (although admittedly I haven't tried)
The reason being those trousers create a triangle look on my body shape and then add on the thin heels my bum would look very out of proportion.

NOt sure if thats what you want to hear though Wink

mamatomany · 15/08/2010 16:17

If you were a size 16 and tall i'd say yes but i do think you need long legs tbh

SixtyFootDoll · 15/08/2010 16:21

Folk will pay £245 for a pair of combats? Shock

traceybath · 15/08/2010 16:29

I tried houlihans on and they did nothing for me and I'm a fairly small size 8 with slim legs but am only 5ft.

I don't think many celebs look good in them as they add width to the thigh area.

However as with everything - you need to try them on and see how they look.

noddyholder · 15/08/2010 16:36

I like them think they are flattering and you need longish legs but don't think need to be super skinny!

They're not Houlihans, but I really like these from Topshop.

maybe don't add as much bulk to the thigh?

Whoamireally · 15/08/2010 21:09

Love the Topshop trews, thanks Naetha!!
See, I think bish has a point - I do have a proportionately smaller waist and perhaps they would not suit.

sorry I meant BIKER boots Grin

See insert pic for the skinny cargo/ biker boot combo....obviously a cheaper alternative is more what's needed.

Although I love these

I love the boots but I think the Houlihans would look awful on you tbh.

They would look dreadful on me as well and I'm a 14.

I would buy the boots in a flash (if I didn't have building work going on and a piece of art that I've got my eye on for the same price as the Burbery's

(can I recommend Scarpa for Hiker boots though?] Grin

Whoamireally · 15/08/2010 21:39

What could you wear the boots with then if not skinny type trousers? I will admit to being boot-driven rather than skinny cargo driven Grin

What about a pencil skirt or short black skirt and a biker jacket,

Or dark skinny jeans and either of those boots. In my probably rubbish opinion the Houlihans have far much going on and would make you look large. Dark skinnies and boots would rock!

QueuePosition3 · 15/08/2010 23:29

I got some Copys in next sale. Oh my god love em. Legs look 20 miles long. Need heels imo

upahill · 16/08/2010 09:50

Wish my legs looked like that Queen!! Grin

I love the Houlihans but I tried some on and really wanted them to work for me but they didn't Sad

monkeysmama · 16/08/2010 10:27

Asos have some in a khaki colour which are less tight than some of the others.

noddyholder · 16/08/2010 14:02

sunday times rated these

Whoamireally · 16/08/2010 14:30

Oh lord. Noddy, just seeing the word 'jegging' in relation to what I thought was the fashion trend of AW10 has now put me right off. I've come to my senses thank you! Wink

I will start looking for dark skinnies, don't have the calves for pencil skirts unfortunately. Still keen on Naetha's Top Shop biker skinnies....
