I personally always go for fabric, but when i go to friends' houses with a leather suite it always looks so stylish. Need to buy a new one what would you have? And any links to good buys would be really appreciated!

We have leather as it is so easy to keep clean. It needs a wipe with a damp cloth and it is lovely and shiny again. Also it looks good with age whereas fabric just looks threadbare and worn with age.

We have these and they are 10 years old and still looking good,

BuzzingNoise · 13/08/2010 14:32

leather. Always.

xkaylax · 13/08/2010 14:34

We have fabric and its fine. If ds (3) gets anything on it, it just sponges of.

I prefer fabric because i dont like the cold when you first sit on a leather sofa in the morning.Blush

I also love loads of cusions and throws though so think i just like fabrics. Grin

Fabric, as long as you can clean it. Leather is cold in winter and sticky in summer.

miche8 · 13/08/2010 14:36

Always leather, we had a fairly cheap one that lasted years, the leather was very hard wearing, i often cleaned it with a wet cloth and anti-bac spray - drinks were often spilled.

We have just bought a new leather suite the leather is very soft and marks easily, have to be careful about zips and buckles on clothing, and we've had to train the dog to not jump up but its so nice to lie on and you dont stick to it. Cant wipe this one down with a wet cloth and i dread the day a drink is spilled. My 3yr old fell asleep and dribbled and now theres a little mark.

Fabric. But with washable covers.

Do you have pets? I wouldn't have fabric again. Our cats have mauled it to death and constantly vomit on it. Deffo leather next time, if I can ever afford a new one.

bunnymother · 13/08/2010 14:47

If I was buying a sofa that I wanted to last and have DCs, I would get leather. We have white fabric sofas and a 14 month old DD. I will say no more.

We have no restrictions on our sofas! Dogs, cats, kids sleeping on them, shoes, drinks, food - anything goes!

Naetha · 13/08/2010 14:58

Leather without a doubt. Unless your family treat your house like a show home...

Ballpoint · 13/08/2010 14:59

I like the look of leather(if it's nice leather, obviously, not a shiny cheapo looking one) but I don't like the way it feels on bare skin, nowhere near as cosy as fabric and I think a sofa is for being cosy on so I'm saying fabric.

We have a cream sofa and it's fabric, the covers come off and go in the wash and it looks brand new again.

mangoandlime · 13/08/2010 15:04

Always fabric. Not a leather fan unless it's vintage aged and v v v expensive.

RamblingRosa · 13/08/2010 15:27

Definitely fabric. I hate leather.

trumpton · 13/08/2010 15:31

We have 2 seater and 3 seater similar to this style in tetrad with washable covers in terracotta and cream . 7 years old now and as good as new. ( disclaimer mine were all teenagers when we got it.)

MyNextMove · 13/08/2010 19:18

Ours is very much like that too Trumpton - washable covers are great!

So on balance I think it's 60/40 for leather, the yougest dc is 6 so no babies now and no animals at moment.

Off for a hunt now - thanks all!
