How do I get shiny glossy painted toenails?

I've filed nails, taken off dry skin, soaked, moisturised etc etc.
Have buffed nails so they are very smooth.
How do I get nails to look extra glossy and shiny?
Mine just look dull, even with base and top coat on!!

have you tried OPI nail varnish? It's really really good. About 10 quid tho.

I do find good quality nail varnish always delivered a shiny finish. (although the one I am wearing is GOSH in dark grey and it is very shiny)

moragbellingham · 11/08/2010 21:37

Base coat.
2 coats of colour.
Top coat.

Top coat always makes a difference I think and makes it last longer.

For some reason, really quick drying polishes don't look so glossy IME.
Also if you use the quick dry spray this seems to happen.

PaulineCampbellJones · 11/08/2010 21:42

Top coat makes a massive difference as does a good polish - Opi, Nails Inc, Essie are all good ones.

purplepeony · 11/08/2010 21:51

I'm using OPI at th e moment and it is glossy.
I have a Boots 17 quick dry one and it looks dull all the time.

HinnyPet · 11/08/2010 21:57

Ooh... I got a quick dry rimmel one, I didn't know that quick dry stuff is a bit crap!
Salon I can't afford sadly but I may try to invest in a better make...
Thank you.

I have glossy toe nails for the first time today - I actually bothered to put the top coat on for a change! I'm using OPI -got a great set from QVC.

apple99 · 11/08/2010 22:01

How long does it take to properly dry with base, 2 coats and top coat?

I have been using No 7 speed dry and it is ok but doesn't keep it's gloss like some other more expensive ones I have had.

HinnyPet · 11/08/2010 22:11

I'm off to look for opi on eBay!!

I've got something that makes it dry quicker - can't remember whether it's opi or Leighten denny. (QVC addict)

TheMoonOnAStick · 11/08/2010 22:17

Yes OPI v good. Also China Glaze.

Minxing is great too done at a salon and looks good for a couple of weeks.

MrsReality Oohh I am keen to try that! Was finding out all about it at the salon I go to the other day. It does look amazingSmile

Shiitake · 11/08/2010 22:18

I find Sally Hansen nail hardener (clear) gives a lovely gloss finish.

Meglet · 11/08/2010 22:19

My sister swears by Jessica Brilliance top coat. It evens out all the blips and brings the shine out.

I think it's about £5 from salons.

pissedrightoff · 11/08/2010 22:20

cornsilk1010- is it seche vite?????

Hello my name is PRO and I'm a QVCaholic!

cornsilk1010 · 11/08/2010 22:22

Grin- will check

popmum · 11/08/2010 22:23

go to a salon have a paint and go (£8 near me) - they use jessica stuff - lasts for ages, shiney, never chips - lasts til my nails grow! Grin

cornsilk1010 · 11/08/2010 22:25

OPI drip dry
got it in this set when it was on TSV.

Scuttlebutter · 11/08/2010 23:42

Another one here who swears by OPI, including a top coat. I started off on QVC, but now buy it from the states via the internet. Much cheaper. Still get the occasional kit from QVC though if especially good value. Currently have beautiful coral toes, done last week and still looking lovely. :)

moragbellingham · 12/08/2010 09:10

Oh yes, I got a Jessica one once, it lasted ages.

MooMinCow · 12/08/2010 09:53

Seche Vite (yes available from QVC or big Boots)

Is the best top coat ever, dries quick, super shiny - that's all there is to say!

traceybath · 12/08/2010 11:26

Agree with moomin - seche vite definitely the best top coat for glossy nails.

moragbellingham · 14/08/2010 12:58

Anyone seen the new No 7 nail product?

Matt top coat!

It's just not right Confused but apparently is now fashionable and the Boots lady said it's selling well.

deaddei · 14/08/2010 13:07

Jessica Brilliance is fantastic.
Had a pedicure 6 weeks ago- and it hasn't chipped/gone dull.
Only had another one last week because I wanted a change of colour.

HinnyPet · 14/08/2010 14:03

I'm going to attempt the fast dry gloss after buffing and buffing and buffing and then I will add top coat. See how we get on....meanwhile as it's my birthday at the end of the month I'm going to ask for a pedicure :)
