She had real silver toenails!!

Yes I know I should have stopped her and asked but...I have just seen a lady in town who had the most fantastic nail varnish. It looked like her toenails had been silver plated. What can this wonderful polish be? I have never seen anything like it before, poor northern girl that I am. Any ideas anyone?? Thanks

this is a better explanation

SummerRain · 11/08/2010 17:11

nail foil.

it's like a transfer that's sealed on either with glue or heat.

it doesn't last very long though and getting it done in a salon is uber-pricey.... you can buy rolls of the foil online and diy it though

Drusilla · 11/08/2010 17:13

My sister had her toes done about 6 weeks ago and it is still immaculate despite being stomped regularly by hefty toddler

teameric · 11/08/2010 17:14

oooooh I like

Ronaldinhio · 11/08/2010 17:14

it's fab and you can buy it really cheaply on ebay

missnevermind · 11/08/2010 17:15

When I worked in the Jewellery Quarter in the 80's all the girls had REAL 9ct gold nails.

Like a set of false nails but gold!

CouldOfWouldOfShouldOf · 11/08/2010 17:15

I've read about this and would love it.

vjg13 · 11/08/2010 17:28

Are they easy to apply and remove if you buy the ebay ones?

ThatVikRinA22 · 11/08/2010 17:30

itll be minx.

ive just let DD have hers done gold. mine are two tone blue! they last ages and ages.

you cant do it yourself though. has to be done at a salon unless youve got all the gubbins to heat it up and file it off etc.

LastOrdersAgain · 11/08/2010 17:33

That sounds like minx. Its gorgeous. My best mate is a nail tech and I keep meaning to get mine done! Its fab.

moonmother · 11/08/2010 17:47

I bought this
www.superdrug.com/nail-polish/2true-glossy-wear-nail-polish-no-9-silver/invt/311812/

just before my holiday a few weeks ago and applied 3 coats and it's amazing. It has a real shine to it, and looks like I've had my nails minxed.

Loads of people commented on it, it lasted for ages .

Ronaldinhio · 11/08/2010 18:14

i've used minx, bought from ebay
heated up with a hairdryer to apply and it went on really well

princesssusu · 11/08/2010 18:15

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think you are all on track with minx and I think they do it at my hairdressers so I'll be on the phone in the morning for a quote. The superdrug nail varnish looks good too so I will have a look at that, thank you. Just hope the weather stays warm enough to keep my toes out for a bit longer...I feel the lure of boots.

One last thing...the website says you don't remove it with nail varnish remover so how do you get it off?

OP posts:
Ronaldinhio · 11/08/2010 18:16

here

Lulumaam · 11/08/2010 18:19

I've had my toes minxed !! not silver, but a leopard print..gorgeous!

beautician advised using hair dryer on low heat setting to remove them..

makeupmummy · 11/08/2010 18:23

I must have this!! But live in middle of nowhere, back of beyond, what to be done? Off to try googling it

Gomes · 17/08/2010 10:38

wow...I would love to have this as well, have seen on magazines though

princesssusu · 17/08/2010 12:42

I had it done on Saturday. It took about 50 minutes and cost £25. I am beyond delighted, its so pretty. If it lasts 6 weeks I won't get it done again this year but will definitely go back for the same again next summer.

I have gsoh (or something like that) silver nail polish (bought in Superdrug, only a few quid) and it is a really good silver colour.

Another vote for minxy nailsSmile About to have mine done again.

TheMoonOnAStick · 17/08/2010 13:15

Has anyone tried gel nail polish? It's supposed to be very good and lasts a long time.

HalfTermHero · 17/08/2010 14:17

Yep, I have bio gel overlays on my nails from time to time. French manicure style and it looks fab. But I would say it is too pricey to justify all the time, at £30 a go. More a special occassion thing. It stays looking perfect, no smudges or chips. But my nails are fast growing and by 2-3 weeks you can see where there is a fair amount of new nail growth at root of nail. To keep it looking 100% perfect, I would need to re-do mine every 2 weeks and even I am not vain enough to burn £60 -£70 on my nails a month! Grin It really helps your nails to grow though, it protects them so they do not really snap or crap.
