Have I too many clothes...

I have a huge wardrobe full of clothes that I rarely wear (but some are so gorgeous I'd hate to see them go - my wardrobes of dreams), and probably over 120 pairs of shoes/boots etc. I have an entire chest of drawers for my lingerie, and at least 10 coats.

Am I that unusual?

I should add I'm in my mid-40s and rarely go out. I am a very long time single mum so my social life got lost between childrearing and holding down a very demanding full-time job); I'm my own secret Barbie ;o)

I'm the same, except for the shoes; have loads, but not that many. Trouble is, I've gained lots of weight and nothing fits atm, so I've packed it all away until I lose the excess fat...:(

Oh yes... I can identify with this.

Massive amount of stuff ranging across three sizes due to weight losses and gains.

I reckon I only ever wear 10% of what I actually own.

I am steeling myself to get rid of anything summery that hasn't been worn at all this year.

Erm, my clothes fill the best part of 3 wardrobes. I just can't bear to part with clothes even although they haven't fitted me for several years due to 2 pregnancies and weight gain. I keep on telling myself that I'll slim into them again but unless I invite Gillian McKeith to stay I don't really see it happening.

Me too jaffacake.

BCBG · 10/08/2010 21:45

Nope - am ruthless with clothes and if I haven't worn it in the current season out it goes to make room for new stuff Grin so tally is an everchanging 5 coats (all for diff purposes), about 6 dresses, three long evening dresses, 2 smart short evening dresses, 3 jeans, 3 or 4 linen trousers, my gardening clothes and a suit for court.

Ok, I feel like the odd one out now! I just don't get shoes I have about 5 pairs and 2 pairs of boots, I have suspected for a while that this was not typical now I'm sure.
I love bags and jewellry though does that count?!

dexter73 · 10/08/2010 21:59

I don't know about the clothes but it is the amount of underwear that has surprised me! I have one drawer for bras, pants, swimming costume, 2 bikinis and thermal vests!

I have loads of lingerie too...most no longer fits me, but it will ~ one day!

Ohh, maybe we should do an MN clothes swop ;o)

I think there is a place in London where we can exchange clothes and I heard that lots are completely new...does anyone know what the place is called?? I have loads that I want to get ready as well.Smile

2to3 · 17/08/2010 10:37

Wow - lucky you - does it all still fit? I held on to my huge 20-something wardrobe for aaages until I faced the fact that I was either too fat or too old to wear it again. So I gave it away or flogged it on ebay and bought something with the proceeds that actully fits. And although i think of some of those clothes fondly still it felt like losing baggage.

There are many upmarket second hand places in London that will sell clothes on and take a cut while giving you the rest... maybe it's time to select the things you still have a use for, sell the rest and do something lovely for yourself with the cash?

But aren't most of them completely out of fashion now?
