So anyone who dislikes playing dress-up, look away now .

I have sister-in-law's Wedding in a few weeks time, and am in outfit conundrum but I have hit on the perfect plan and need help to execute it!

I was planning to do Pretty Dress, Navy Blazer, Little pair of heels (all covering an armoury of control undergarments - being 14 weeks post-birth!). But then I thought how much I didn't want to look like every other (slimmer, no varicosed veined) girl there.

What I want, is to wear a pair of really slim black trousers which finish kind of above the ankle, a pair of ballet flats, and a pretty peter-pan collar blouse. Kind of channelling a sort of Jean Seberg or Audrey Hepburn sorta look. I'm about a 12-14 now. I've checked out the 'net but I think the trousers are really eluding me. They have to be just so. Any ideas? please help me to indulge Cool French Woman fantasy .

what about these?

or these

moondog · 04/08/2010 17:03

I think that is a nice look but a bi weird for a wedding tbh..

cocolepew · 04/08/2010 17:03

Wallis and M&S had capri pants, M&S ones in the sale at the moment.

AdelaideJo · 04/08/2010 17:11

Wallis! Thats a thought.

Moon - I do agree. I'm really not sure. I just don't want to get my legs out actually. They look like roadmaps. And it will definately be too hot for tights. Plus as I last went out to a dressing-up event in about 2008, i need to be able to use what I buy again, maybe for work...

Also, having just had a baby I feel self-conscious about wearing thin shoulder straps, wrap-over dress, ANYTHING! Grrr.

MandS have navy ones as you're describing in autograph range... can't link as on phone, will post later.

BelligerentGhoul · 04/08/2010 17:24

I think it sounds lovely. Have you found a blouse?

I think you'd need a really beautiful big silver cuff or lots of pearl bracelets, just to lift the outfit a bit.

trumpton · 04/08/2010 17:34

could work with hot pink pashmina

trumpton · 04/08/2010 17:44

Is this too big ?over blouse

AdelaideJo · 04/08/2010 17:46

WOW Trumpton - she is epitomising it for me! Although I would ladle on some accessories. Well, I say ladle, I was thinking of a headband (got some great ones on my-wardrobe), and lots of silver jewellery.

Belligerent I haven't found a blouse yet but I was going to scrimp on the slacks and splurge on the blouse and shoes (French Sole maybe). If i had the cash I'd like Lulu Guiness 'lips' clutch bag. God, I sound like a right old victim today!

Mont I will check out the M&S. I had thought about Navy..

That Very blouse is lovely. But i'm going to tuck something in (have done oversized for the last 13 months!) Plus I also regretably can't wear pure white. I'm pretty pale and blond haired, and bright white makes me look really peculiar. Was going to look for a blouse in a really silky or draping material that wouldn't bunch up loads when tucked in.

Do you really want to wear black trousers? Wouldn't navy or grey be better?

Moneyspider · 04/08/2010 18:02

Think LS is right. You need Bonsoir's wardrobe, really you do. There was a "what are you wearing today" thread ages ago and she had a similar, though teeny, outfit

SparkyMalarky · 04/08/2010 18:06

Gap have a new range of black trousers - including a cropped pair I think. Will see if I can find and link.

Agree that navy or grey would be better though.

trumpton · 04/08/2010 18:07

ta dah?

SparkyMalarky · 04/08/2010 18:09

these are Boden and not black

SparkyMalarky · 04/08/2010 18:14

still boden and comes in patterns too

BTW - love wearing trousers to a wedding - outfit plan sounds perfect

mamaloco · 04/08/2010 18:15

Zara had a lot of cropped trousers in different fabric and shapes. Was able to find some post baby fat pants which fitted me there. lots of different colors as well, so you can have fun.

AdelaideJo · 04/08/2010 18:17

I think I'm going to order the Navy Boden's tonight. Measurements mean they will fit like a glove whereas normally I have trouble with waists.

Trumpton I really like that blouse; the length and style are fab but (god i sound like a fussy jerk) those brassy buttons will pop off in seconds with my 2 kids worrying them all day!

how do you feel about showing your arms?

SparkyMalarky · 04/08/2010 18:19

love this - good for work or jeans afterwards. Could wear with silver accessories or hot pink

SparkyMalarky · 04/08/2010 18:20

(can you tell I'm avoiding clearing up the chaos after tea?)

SparkyMalarky · 04/08/2010 18:21

Oh good - glad the trousers work

SparkyMalarky · 04/08/2010 18:24

if you wear grey you could have silver shoes too

SparkyMalarky · 04/08/2010 18:24

try again

AdelaideJo · 04/08/2010 18:27

I am liking the John Lewis top! Haven't got a problem with my arms.

The moonstone colour is lovely too.
