Oh Poo, Dodgy Abercrombie site?

I have ordered DD's birthday hoody from a site called www.uk-abercromies.com which I stupidly believed to be the genuine site,(looks real enough).

So, the money went out of my account but I heard nothing until I received a 'dodgy' email from them apologising for the delay in very broken English and stating that the order is being shipped from China.

Tell me it will still arrive and that my bank account will not be wiped out.

It might come but it will be a fake. Sorry!

Maize, Thanks, the gold padlock icon was on the site, do you reckon they could take more out of my account?

you mean this?

rather than this?

I think the first may be clearance, a bit like TK maxx...hopefully...

serin · 03/08/2010 19:27

No, not the first.

Looked very like the second but not!

I am usually fairly switched on (DD killing herself laughing though, when she just read that!)

But this site really fooled me.

Yep, definitely fake. But you should get what you ordered(all be it fake), and I doubt you will have your account cleared out.

Tootlesmummy · 03/08/2010 20:22

Did you give your credit card details or bank account details?

I had a similar incident before and in the end I cancelled my credit card just to be on the safe side.

LynetteScavo · 03/08/2010 20:33

You wouldn't have given actual bank account details, though, would you?

If in doubt, cancel the card.

serin · 04/08/2010 16:45

Thanks, I just used visa debit card to pay.

You live and learn hey!

I have just made the same mistake with the same website. did u receive anything in the end?

overmydeadbody · 04/12/2010 09:36

If you recieve anything, it will be fake, and poor quality fake too.

This happened to me. Luckily bought on credit card and the bank refunded me. Recieved dodgy fake item and donated it to women's shelter.

TheNextMrsClaus · 04/12/2010 10:57

If you read the FAQs on the site you will see the following:

  1. Are all products sold on the Abercombie & Fitch authentic?
The quality of our items is the best. We always get the best products of different brands. Our bags are made of 100% real and were best handcrafted. They are absolutely worthy.

So English not their first language, I would guess...

There is also a lot of waffle about end-of-line stocks, low overheads etc.

I think you'll get your goods, but not likely to be genuine.

overmydeadbody · 04/12/2010 11:48

I find reading the FAQs is the best way of telling whether or not a website is genuine. That and looking at where the website is being hosted.

dexter73 · 04/12/2010 12:50

Also if it the price is too good to be true then it will be fake.

AnyFuleSno · 04/12/2010 12:57

Call the bank and get a replacement card.

jennastrachan · 13/12/2010 12:38

Incase anybody makes the same mistake as I did. I did receive items. I'd spent £120 on 3 items. They look as though they have failed quality control. Luckily it is wearable and people will only notice if they are looking for a fake. So just a bit of piece of mind incase anyone else has this problem, I did receive items. One of the jackets is a different colour and pattern to what I ordered but I'm relieved I actually received anything!
