too 'office wear'?

All the dresses I want are out of stock, from cheap maxi dress at Asos to cream dobby dress in Next. Getting desperate.

Have a barbecue to go to at the weekend and it is with the man who may or may not want to be just friends.

It will be me, 3 or 4 of my DC (depending on Chicken Pox status) and him and all his friends that have known him yonks. I know none of them and don't know him awfully well either.

I wonder if I could make it chic/casual with right accessories.

I have to say that semi fitted/A line neat little dresses suit me best as am petite frame with chub at the mo. I'm not used to the chub and am very unhappy in most things at the moment as I don't look like me anymore.

So, would this be too like work wear?

hobbgoblin · 29/07/2010 17:42

It is suitable for work,,,,,, but you could wear it with these shoes to give you height and make the outfit more casual..

said · 29/07/2010 17:44

Pity you need it so soon. Are you in a city?

BunnyLebowski · 29/07/2010 17:45

Too officey and rather frumpy imo.

This is much cuter

What's your budget etc?

BelligerentGhoul · 29/07/2010 17:46

Yes, it's too office. And it's Next (not good) and it's polyester, so even worse. Sorry.

Great Plains have a cute little waisted red dress with tiny white ponies on in the sale - that would be nice, with wedges maybe?

Will try and find it.

ValiumSingleton · 29/07/2010 17:48

What about this for a bbq wallis much maligned but far better than next imo

BelligerentGhoul · 29/07/2010 17:48

Ponies}. Our House of Fraser stock Great Plains, if it's too late to order online.

ValiumSingleton · 29/07/2010 17:49

this one would be quite kind to a post baby figure I think

hobbgoblin · 29/07/2010 17:51

Bunny that sort of thing looks good on me if A line but my body is short (legs comparatively long for my 5'2") so that fit makes me look hippy and bottom overly large I'm afraid.

Oh and chest is DD so have to be careful there too.

I don't particularly want a Next dress but have a large store nearby where I could hop out of the car and grab if I saw something if I am not in time to order online.

Oasis?

BelligerentGhoul · 29/07/2010 17:52

If you're a DD that one in the OP would be quite unforgiving on the bust as well, I think.

hobbgoblin · 29/07/2010 17:56

I like the black floral oasis dress but wonder if too much cling around bum?

I LOVE the oasis dress. I want that. Wonder where it will sit as not petite...

Cute? Oasis again And cheap

hobbgoblin · 29/07/2010 17:58

Those ponies are cool. I like the idea of ponies. I bought the M&S miss poppins (or whatever it was called) dress with 'ladies' print, but looks rubbish now I'm not pregnant.

I am near a City so driving to get said dress is not impossible but need to select and reserve online if poss.

BelligerentGhoul · 29/07/2010 18:01

I wanted that M&S one but never found it in my size - and I think it was polyester anyway and I try and avoid it. I love dresses and skirts with 'quirky' prints!

anyone know the sizing on that great plains dress?..is xs and 8 or 6? please

BelligerentGhoul · 29/07/2010 18:24

White silk at a barbecue is overly risky, methinks!

ValiumSingleton · 29/07/2010 23:36

Said, that first one you linked to is very samcam!
