I need to keep fit heeeelp!

I need to keep fit as my ds is very active. I do not always feel that I can play with him to the extenent that I would like as I am so tired and keep getting headaches. Oh did i mention he NEVER sleeps through the night and wakes up to 4 times per night I am cracking up as he is now 15 months and many other chidren seem to sleep for more than 4 hours.I feel like a rubbish mother, what I am doing wrong?? I want to cry but seem to be unable to. As i feel so low I eat unbalanced snacks and feel heavy and sluggish.
Will anyone hear my plea. I feel pretty depressed.

Ah you poor thing :-(

no suggestion on the sleeping front (which sounds the bigger problem) but for exercise why don't you see if there is a local buggyfit (google it).

I joined my local one when ds 5.5 months was 10 weeks. I'd never stuck at exercise before but love it because:-

  • you can take ds
  • outside
  • other mums to moan with/get advice
  • fairly cheap £4/5 a session - compared to gym etc
  • instructors trained to deal with postnatal fitness so go at right pace for you
  • instructors mums too so jiggle buggies, hunt down toddlers and understand about ropey pelvic floors
  • good fun
  • pay as you go
  • not intimidating like gym as everyone relatively new mums and understands the lure of the sofa/biscuit tin!

some days I don't feel like it but always feel better after.

A couple of points - have you been taking any iron supplements? If not, get thee to your local boots or tesco and buy some spatone. Take it in orange juice, one a day for a week, then top up when you start to feel tired again.

See if you can get a copy of 30 day shred - it's brilliant, and there's a really good thread on big/slim/whatever about it. It's an exercise DVD, but only 20 minutes long, so fairly easy to fit in.

Personally, I also find that if I cut down on refined carbs (particularly white bread and cakes/biscuits) I have a LOT more energy, and don't snack anywhere near as much.

Having said that, I'm having a bad week - haven't done my DVD all week, had a mahoosive meal last night and just had a peanut butter and jam sandwich on white bread. meh, I'm only human.

I know all this won't help your DS sleep through the night (which seems to be the root of the problem!) but it might keep you going until he does. Good luck!
