Help! Wedding to go to in a couple of weeks, got a dress and a cast on my leg!

Dh and I have a wedding to go to in three weeks. Bearing in mind I am going to be out of the country for two of them, I need to do something about sorting out shoes, bag and jewellery to go with the dress I've bought.

Just to complicate things, I currently have my right leg in an air-cast up to the knee. I will hopefully just have come out of the cast a few days before the wedding and need some shoes that take this into account.

So, the shoes will need to be flat, as I have a lot of ligament and tendon damage around my ankle and can't risk going over on my ankle - again. I'm not too happy about this, as I don't wear heels as a general rule, but always feel smarter and like I look better when I am wearing them. (I'm worried I will look frumpy in flat shoes.) I am also a bit worried about how thin the soles are on most of the flat fashion shoes as I have a fracture, which is painful on the underside of the outside of my foot.

This is the dress and I have been looking at pewter gladiators as the model is wearing gladiators in the listing and they look ok with the dress. Pewter is the closest thing I can find to the colour of the metal zip on the dress. I must have looked at thousands of pairs of shoes and am still none the wiser, so am now throwing myself at the feet of all you lovely MN style experts and pleading for help.

Once I have shoes sorted I will need to find a bag and some jewellery. I was thinking possibly a few stacked bracelets or a cuff, but am stuck on what earrings I should wear. My hair is very similar to the model in the listing, although possibly a tad longer and slightly darker in colour.

I am generally slightly alternative in my taste and was seriously considering buying a mad pair of pewter coloured knee high Dr Martens at one point, as I thought they would support my ankle and at least look different, even if they weren't exactly glamorous. (Dh told the bride and groom this and they are desperate for me to wear them now. )

So, any takers?

2 practical questions - can you fly with a cast on? and wont you have to be on crutches and not weight bearing once your cast comes off?

i think you need medical advice before fashion advice TBH. no outfit/occasion is worth setting back your recovery

Hi, I am going by ferry so no problems with flying.

I have had the cast on for three weeks now (after hobbling around for a fortnight because they told me it was just a sprain at the first hospital I went to ) and as it is an air-cast (I know, I know, its really glam isn't it) I have been told to start taking it off for short periods of time around the house etc in about another week and a half's time, gradually building up to not wearing it over a two week period after that.

So even if I do have to still use a crutch for longer periods of standing/walking, I should be able to get away without wearing the cast by the wedding.

(I did ask and the consultant felt I should be fine not wearing the cast for the wedding.)

Sorry, I didn't put all the detail in my op, as I am always writing really long posts and wanted to try and keep this one reasonably short. So not boring at all, just very sensible questions.

just checking as my 9yo DD broke her leg last year and she wasnt allowed to weight bear for quite a few weeks after the cast came off

i didnt want you to get all excited about new shoes and then discover they weren't an option

Thanks chocolatefroggie. I think the ones with a slight heel are a definite no-no, as my ankle is very unstable and if it decided to go out from under me again there would be further for my ligaments to be pulled iyswim.

I really like the second to last Dune ones with the spikes though.

What do you think about the colour? Is pewter the right choice? I know the zip on the dress looks slightly goldish on the photo, but when you see it in reality its more of a darkish antique silvery colour.

Thanks KristinaM, I was only non-weight bearing for a week and my cast is an air-walker, so I can put some weight on it around the house already, but have to use a crutch when it starts to hurt or if I'm walking any distance.

Your poor dd, hope she is fully recovered now.

I think part of the problem is that I can't get excited about the shoes. When I chose the dress initially, I had planned to get a really funky pair of shoes, possibly some really glam heeled gladiators - which is unusual for me as I am usually wearing Dr Martens or MBT trainers. I was looking forward to getting glammed up for a change, but now I feel I will just look a frump in anything I wear.

Doesn't help that my right leg now has a fair bit of muscle wastage and is therefore considerably skinner and more spindly than my left leg. It will soon come right I'm sure, but not in time for the wedding unfortunately.
