Wedding guest outfit - please help. Size 18/20

I have a wedding to go to on Saturday and I have been searching for an outfit.

I bought a dress from the Monsoon sale and DP said that IHO my legs are not right in a dress as they make my legs look wide.

Dress is going back and he said about wearing a maxi dress (I'm only 5'3) and I think it'll too casual.

I'm 30 years old and the other guests my age will be in Lipsey style dresses.

What about black trousers with a blouse?

Definitely no to the maxi dress suggestion. They do not look good on anyone who isn't at least 5'8 and at most a size 12.

Black trousers and a blouse is far too old and frumpy for you.

Do you have a link to the monsoon dress?? I suspect your DP is wrong about your legs.

Can you wear heels??

SleepingLions · 26/07/2010 09:52

I tried to find a link but couldn't.

It ends half way on my calves and the cut is very flattering IMO.

I was thinking maybe a 'young' blouse rather than a librarian style one.

I thought that about the maxi dress - it's green as well so I'll look like an over grown leprechaun...

I would have wore the Monsoon dress with peep toe shoes and flesh tights (also without toes).

I used to be the same size as you and dresses that ended half way on my calves weren't the most flattering on me. I was better in shorter dresses.

Please don't go in black trousers and a top. Find a shorter dress. What are your boobs like? I always need something with decent straps to cover my massive bras.

SleepingLions · 26/07/2010 10:03

My knees are awful - you can see the weight above them.
A shorter dress would be worse definitely.
I have biggish boobs so I do need something with decent straps.

Is there no options to wear trousers?

What about a dress that skims the knee? Would you wear tights? I would!

What sort of shape are you?

BunnyLebowski · 26/07/2010 10:07

I think the dress you have, worn with a gorgeous pair of heels will look fantastic.

If the fit of the dress is flattering everywhere else no-one is going to pay a blind bit of attention to your legs.

For me black trousers are just a no-no for a wedding.

SleepingLions · 26/07/2010 10:08

Sorry - actually this dress does do that - about an inch lower than my knees.

I have a big belly - and I am generally large all over. My weight is evenly distributed.

My legs have always been big - even when I was smaller.

I would wear tights and heels.

Yes, go with the dress you have.

Wear it with pride, head up, stand well and you'll look amazing.

Thank you. I just spoke to my sister - she is going to come and look at it.

You've both made me feel better.
