No no no! You need this

Just put in your ebay ID and password and CnP the item number. Then click 'snipe' and enter your maximum bid- make it high so you outbid everyone else (with 9 bids there's a lot of interest)- you probably won't end up paying that much. For example, if your maximum bid is £50, put in £56.99 or something to outbid all those who have put in £50. Select how many seconds before auction ends you want to bid- I suggest 5 or 6.

Finally, VERY importantly, check the 'activate snipe' box and update- you will know this has worked because the box turns purple.

Then you sit back and it bids up to your maximum on your behalf in the last few seconds; thus snatching it away from the highest bidder.

I have never lost an item in this way.

Arf. Goofbay is a lot simpler- but it let me down once and I can never forgive it

Goof bay has let me down a few times too, agonising considering the item went for way, way below what I was willing to pay, grrr.
