What should wear for an interview???

newstart2010 · 16/07/2010 21:02

Have not had an interview for years. I've got one arranged for Monday, and I want to look smart but not stuffy. I am size 10 and have a small waist with bigger hips.

I'm thinking of a skirt suit with a very fitted jacket. Sometimes when I wear a suit I feel like a teenager playing at being an adult, but i'm 25.

What I would really like to wear is a nice skirt, shirt and waistcoat. But not sure if that is too informal? Or out of fashion?

Please give me some tips it is not a city flyer type of job, it is a sales/admin role in a smallish company.

Also have not got loads and loads of money so was looking for tips on fashionable, affordable office wear.

Help...

I think a waistcoat would be fine. I've just got a v nice one from Warehouse and it was only 15 pounds.

oh thank you for the quick reply, I have not been working for 3years after having dd so just wanted to check i was not way off

Love the waistcoat and skirt combo- definitely smart enough. What's your budget? Will look.

newstart2010 · 16/07/2010 21:47

oh good, two good responses for skirt and waist coat . I think I will feel very comfortable in a waist coat and skirt.

Not sure of budget, defo under £100. And I am very low on money at the mo, so as low as possible, I also want some shoes as well.

Thinking of t bar shape? Or those ones with smallish hills which get wider at the bottom if you know what i mean?

What do you think of these type of shoes

I think black would be sensible but depends on what colour my clothes are as a differnt colour pair of shoes might be a good idea.

BelligerentGhoul · 16/07/2010 22:41

1st one was a next one- the sale started today, so they've probably messed around with the site.

Let us know what you get!

tethersend · 17/07/2010 16:03

This one's lovely...

newstart2010 · 17/07/2010 20:46

I bought the grey shoes and some purple ones.

also bought this

but it is size 8, looks ok on but when i sit down is too tight. They didn't have a size 10 and no size 10 online.

Also bought a jacket that is very similar but does not match, so thinking of wearing that with a black skirt or possibly grey? What do you think?

Also bought 2 tops, so spent loads and still have nothing to wear

love my 2 pairs of shoes tho....

I would not try mixing and matching the jacket, tbh. Can you get a black waistcoat and wear it with a black skirt over one of the tops you bought? Sort of like this?

newstart2010 · 17/07/2010 21:08

Thats what i thought, i hate mixing and matching, i like to have a complete set.

The waist coat you gave me a link to from peacocks is nice, but i saw it in the shop and the skirt that matches wasn't very nice material...

I might have another look tho...

They hardly had any stock in the next i was in as there was so much sale stuff, so didnt see that waist coat. Will have another look tomorrow, but have not got as much time to shop tomorrow.

Aw, sorry

I would love to just say the jacket and black skirt would be fine, but I think your waistcoat idea is perfect- I really hope you get one. When is the interview? Can you order it online with next day delivery?

newstart2010 · 17/07/2010 22:45

i would prefer the waist coat too, I am going to a different shopping area tomorrow that has a mango at the shopping centre, so hopefully i'll find one...

It is monday, so no luck there...

Just wanted to say good luck for tomorrow- let me know how you get on

BelligerentGhoul · 18/07/2010 22:14

Yes - good luck!

newstart2010 · 19/07/2010 13:21

Thank you it seemed to of went really well. The man that interviewed me said he likes my personailty and it would be suitable for the job, i have to meet his business partner who is away on holiday so might be a while but atleast i feel more confident now.

I think it went well because i felt good in my new clothes and espically my new shoes.

tethersend · 19/07/2010 15:25

Well done! I have my fingers crossed for you

What did you wear in the end?

BelligerentGhoul · 19/07/2010 17:04

Great.

newstart2010 · 19/07/2010 22:23

Thanks

I went to peacocks to buy the skirt and waist coat, but they didnt have my size in the waist coat. So instead bought the skirt and jacket with short sleeves.

this with [[http://www.peacocks.co.uk/product/index.jsp?productId=4076881&prodFindSrc=prodCrossSell&refProd=40 76901 and this

OP posts:
tethersend · 19/07/2010 22:29

Oooh, that's lovely.

newstart2010 · 20/07/2010 13:20

Thanks

And thanks for the help, when you have been out of the loop for a while its always good to get some advice
