Really need help with this outfit

Got to look business like and interesting on Tues so not too much time to sort.

On a shoe string, so been to Next (my least favourite shop for when I'm trying to look interesting)

Think trouser suits look shit on me.

I am 5'2" and any fat I do have is pretty confined to saddlebags, rounded but shapely arse and a bit of hippage. What I'm saying is if the trousers aren't the right cut then I look dreadful.

I have a black very matt silk A line dress with a lace yolk. Was thinking of teaming with jacket and accessories but think too warm for jacket and dress would not look right without formalising with a jacket.

Have very, very light platinum crop and medium tan.

How about a bolero style jacket with the dress?

Also, can you just wear any jacket until you are introduced (am guessing it's a interview?) then remove it.

How formal is the situation? I interview a lot, and a smart dress shows the candidate has made an effort, but dressed appropriate to the weather (ie. too hot for formal business suit).

hobbgoblin · 10/07/2010 22:24

It's an audition. But business related. Am very nervous and VERY unsure about everything from dress to...well, just everything!

I would say you def. need a dress, in a plain colour. No point wearing a TS if you feel you look awful (I do too), a dress will be more comfy and better in the heat.

Would you wear something like this? The pleats at the neck would balance out your alleged 'saddle-bags'. Could wear with coloured shoes, or plain black.

hobbgoblin · 10/07/2010 22:30

Your link is still the shoe one which I have saved from the winter footwear thread to peruse...nearer winter!

I really want to wear a dress as they do suit me faaaar better, and I think there will be plenty of boring suits on the day and I just want to stand out a little, in a good way.

I would say that for most things I can get away with a fairly boho/hippy/girly look but obv. don't want to go too far with this.

I was also thinking bolero or cropped neat little jacket but cannot find anything so far. It can't be too nipped in with A line dress. Also not sure of fabric to go with silk. Would heavy, tailored linen work?

this?

Sorry for the M and S link, and was thinking in a different colour? But it is petite, and nipped in!

PlumSykes · 11/07/2010 08:24

Sorry! Went off to bed.

this was the dress I linked to

hobbgoblin · 11/07/2010 11:49

Thank you!

I love that dress and the black jaeger jacket.

Need to check delivery although there is a Jaeger outlet 5 mins from me

Right, I went to Jaegar and tried on said jacket but the size that fitted over norks was gapey around neck and shoulders. Eternal problem as am very petite frame but big bust. Was nice though.

So then went home and tried on dress with a jacket I have but looks outdated due to weird cropped sleeves on jacket. Not sure why I bought this jacket as it makes arms look half length, which one can ill afford when not tall. I then decided that the dress was over-worn and frankly a bit shabby, though alright for going out to bars in.

Went back to Galleria and in French Connection found the most AMAZING black dress. It's a shift dress, with hint of ruffle down the front seams so very slimming. I asked if they had 'con you' mirrors because I actually looked quite hot I thought. Bought it without any further hesitation for 40 quid and grabbed some very high heels to go with. These are black patent with a sheeny wooden heel made of
wood stuff that looks like ikea furniture.

Very happy with outfit but no jacket - does this matter? Will post pic later if I can.

Oooh, let's see pic and will give you an honest appraisal

Clure · 11/07/2010 21:22

could you do a little shrug type cardi? like this
or this

PlumSykes · 12/07/2010 09:48

Sounds fabulous, and more to teh point, you sound super-happy with it, which means you will be comfortable and confident tomorrow, which is the most important thing.

It's hard to tell without seeing, but I think that a blazer like this would work well, and look business-like, but still foxy. Which is good, no?

hobbgob · 13/07/2010 00:07

Have uploaded photo under this name as cannot log in with usual hobbgoblin name. I have mixed up detaisl from 2 mn accounts. Is all v. confusing.

Loujalou · 13/07/2010 09:18

Hobgob you are not going for an apprentice interview by any chance? I know they are doing them at the moment.

I too have huge norks but quite slim apart from that (and my belly). Its a bit late but Bravissimo might have something. Though their stuff this season is a bit shit.

I live near the Galleria. Was there nothing in TKs?

Loujalou · 13/07/2010 09:19

I can't see a picture by the way but am tempted to go to French Connection to have a look at the dress.
