I really need to stop smoking. I've stopped every time I've been pregnant, so I clearly have the willpower somewhere, but I can't now.!

I smoke at least 18/22 fags a day the smell makes me feel sick, the taste. I've read Allen Carr's no smoking book but here I am.

I'm desperate to do it this January the 1st and give up for good I'm planning to do it cold turkey like last time, however the one thing I hate is the anxiety and cold sweats I get when I get to around day 1/2.
I can't sleep I feel almost like I'm having an hours long panic attack it's awful.

Anyone want to join?

@Iwantmynameback I'm in a very similar situation to you today. We're Tier 4 and stuck in the house while DP is out at work and I've been thinking about it more than ever. I did have my first "win" yesterday, however. DP had some bad family news and bought a pack to ease his stress but I managed to resist. 5 days and going strong ish.

@SassenachWitch I think it's important to only do it when you're ready. Cutting out a couple a day might help ease into it.

Hey joining in - day 9 and suffering a lot. Both me and DH are in the same boat and it’s hell.

Hi
I joined this thread at the beginning, but sadly didn't get beyond good intentions

Decided yesterday evening to have last one - so nearly 10 hours in

So far so good - walked dog which normally goes with a ciggy, and started work and still doing ok

Home schooling as well - so days do get stressful, but determined to do this now

Good luck to everyone else going through this at the moment

It seems from the length of the thread that things didn't go great....
I'm day 1 today!!

I'm joining this thread because I too need to quit smoking. I was meant to stop today but self sabotaged straight off. I overslept, ran to the shop for milk and bought twenty because I thought fuck it, the days ruined anyway. Start again tomorrow! I've got patches and a vape and no work.

HiSmile
Well, I caved and had half a cigarette yesterday afternoon.
Really disappointed in myself but onwards I go...

Spied · 27/03/2021 08:15

I've read the Allan Carr book too.
First time I read it I thought things had really clicked in my brain however one week later I fell into the trap of testing myself to see if I was cured and would hate a cigarette when I lit one. I didn't.
I'm currently reading it again.

Hope others on this thread are still trying to stop - or have succeeded!
I decided to move to vaping - as whilst stopping fully would be far better - I just fail time and time again
And day 3 nearly done!
The vaping def makes it easier - intending to reduce the strength of the liquid after a week or so - and go down to 0

I do realise the risks of vaping - esp the unknowns - but science seems to broadly agree that is less bad than smoking - so one step at the time

And so far so good - no moodiness or anything - and very pleased with the fact that my hair and clothes no longer smell 🙂
