Question for all you social smokers / occasional smokers

Hi all,

So I'm 23 and I used to smoke before I was pregnant, I've never been the kind to wake up in the morning and need a fag. My partner is a full time smoker however. I fully stopped when I was pregnant, however on nights out I always chain smoke with my friends.

I work long 12 hour shifts in a hospital, and I usually have a fag on the way to work and on the way home, I know I'm not going to see my 15 month old when I get home as she'll be in bed so I think this is fine.

I never EVER smoke around my child or when I know I'm going to see her as I think the thought of it sticking on my clothes puts me off big time, I wouldn't wanna danger her in anyway.

Anyways, my friend has one of these vape sticks that she bought locally and I've had a shot of hers while at work. I just wondered what people's opinions were on these?

Obviously I'm not a full time smoker as I say, I only buy a packet of fags every 2-3 weeks and they usually last me, but I hate the smell of it. I don't want to stop as I don't do it enough for it to be a problem and it's sometimes the only relief I have after a very long stressful day at work. I also occasionally have a fag at night when my baby has gone to sleep. It's just something I enjoy.

I'm wondering if I should just get a vape instead and cut the fags out altogether? I know with a vape I wouldn't be left with that horrible cigarette smell and I'd only buy the liquids that have no nicotine in them. It's not the cigarette itself I enjoy, it's just the smoking aspect after a long day. What's people's thoughts?

Would it be worth me spending about £35 on a vape and then buying the liquid every few weeks for it? I think it would most likely save me money in the long run. As sometimes I buy even more packets of fags if my friends smoke them or my partner too.

Let me know anyone's thoughts or experiences with vapes please. Any advice is helpful.

Thank you.

Obviously it's better all round if you just give up the fags but as you say, you enjoy it.
Part of the attraction for me is I get the same, if not more, enjoyment from my ecigs as I did from the fags so that helps in keeping me off combustibles.
No harm in giving it a go, just a matter of deciding which device to get and what flavours you like, perhaps the most important part.
Cost wise it'll be far cheaper, I would have spent about £15000 in the past 6 years on fags, spent about £1000 at the very most on (many) devices and liquid.

Thank you for your reply, yeah I think that's one of the main factors for me that I know in the long run I will save money that way.

Do you have a smell when using a vape like it is with fags? I just think fags seem so much more lethal compared to the vape. The vape liquid I was gonna get would have no nicotine in it and hopefully wouldn't leave a horrible smell.

I don't notice any lingering smell from vapour, there's no solid particles in it so nothing to stick to surfaces.
My DW only vapes apple and I don't smell it at all even when she's right beside me however I can now smell a smoker at 50 paces.
It's only noticeable to me if someone was vaping huge clouds of something extra sweet but even then it dissipates quickly.
