I had a difficult year last year and unfortunately started smoking again! I have been planning to stop for a while now but not managed to do it.

What's the best way to stop smoking? I read a book years ago that helps you stop and it worked and I didn't smoke for seven years. I'm thinking of reading the books again but I havnt got round to it.

Someone suggested patches do they really work? I don't like vapes!

I don't think there is a best way to stop. It's all about finding a method that works for you.

I've tried every way you can imagine. Cold turkey, patches, gum, the Allen Carr book and nothing worked for me until i started vaping again with decent kit. A year on and I've no urge to smoke. But vaping isn't right for everyone.

Good luck

Hi OP,

I tried all of the usual NRT like patches and inhalers. The only thing that’s actually stopped me was Champix, but there can be negative side effects of you have any history of depression or mental health issues so it’s what would work best for you.

I’ve not smoked for almost 3 years now, and it does take a lot of willpower, but if you want it enough you can do it. Good luck!

My sister smokes and we are begging her to stop. I've heard that vaping can be a good transition method to stop smoking as you can slowly reduce the amount of nicotine until there is nothing left. I don't know if that's helpful. However, I've also known work colleagues to quit cold turkey.

You have to want to quit.

Cold turkey worked for me.

The Allen Carr books are very useful reading too, to get you into the right mindset.

The Allen Carr Easyway to Stop Smoking. This changed my life. I was a confirmed smoker (30 a day). I tried many times to stop without success. I did this seminar and I never smoked or had much of an urge to smoke again. I'm 15 years a happy non smoker now. I cannot recommend this highly enough. Good luck
