<Waves> I've finally made it! But I have a few questions

Having lurked since the very first vaping thread, I am finally the owner of a eGo system.

And I haven't had a fag since lunch time yesterday Grin

I do have a couple of question though..

I've found this afternoon that I'm having some cravings for 'normal' fags, they are manageable but I'm a lotbit grumpy.

I've got a bit of a sore throat and my chest feels a bit sore/tight is this just adjustment?

For back ground am a 20+ a day smoker for the last 15 years (excluding pregnancy) and have never made it past 24 hours quitting before.

I really want this to work!

Thanks for any advice

Sore throat is quite normal - you vape differently to how you smoke a fag - try drawing much slower & smoother, if YKIM>

What strength liquid are you vaping? Most 20 a day people start on 18mg strength. If you are only on 12 it might not be enough for you.

And a puff of vaping does not deliver you the same amount of nicotine as a puff of a fag - quite a lot less. So you may need to vape more often than you smoked.

And many of us who are now 100% vapers, began by smoking & vaping for a short time, dual fuel as we call it. Grin For me it was a week then I just ditched the fags. So if you do decide to have a fag, don't feel bad, or that vaping won't work for you - it will.

Well done on 24 hours & do keep going.

Come back & tell us & ask any questions, there are lots of very knowledgeable people here when it comes to all the technical side of vaping (not me!). No question is too silly to ask - we've all been at beginning of this.

(First time I went to fill my tank I just poured the liquid in & it all came out the mouthpiece - had me very puzzled!)

PeanutBitter · 24/05/2014 17:56

Grin at pouring liquid in the mouthpiece .

Thanks for the advice magi

I'm on 18mg strength have just tried drawing slower and it felt better.

I think the cravings are more psychological, but I do have some fags stashed so I'm more seeing how long I can go iyswim. I read on one of the threads that its all about the cigs you don't smoke.

Mostly I feel great just having the odd murdery moment, so it's a bit like pmt Grin

Hi Peanut, well done for taking that first step Smile.

As Magi says, you may find it better to vape much more often than you used to smoke, but less each time. As a 20 a day smoker you were having a cigarette on average about every 50 minutes, and smoking for 6-8 minutes for each fag. Try vaping every 10-15 minutes or so, but only taking 6-8 drags each time so you spread it out a bit IYSWIM?

Many new vapers are surprised by how much they vape, and think they must be absorbing much more nicotine than they used to while smoking. This isn't actually the case, as you take in much less nicotine by vaping than you did smoking (can't remember the actual figures, Plenty knows them). So don't think to yourself "oh I only smoked once an hour, so I can only vape that often", it just doesn't work that way.

Allergictoironing · 24/05/2014 18:51

Oh and when you get those odd murdery moments just grab your eGo & vape away!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 24/05/2014 19:45

Hooray! Well done on your first 24 hours Flowers

And yes, count the ones you don't smoke, not the ones you do.

If 18mg is not doing it for you don't be afraid to try a higher nicotine level. I still use 24mg occasionally after 7 months and I smoked a lot less than you. You can cut down later if you want to and vaping makes this easy. This is interesting reading (for a variety of reasons) - to get the same nicotine as you'd get from a fag you'd have to be vaping 50mg (although that's a massive simplification - nobody smokes or vapes the same and you can't compare how much nicotine two smokers or vapers are getting even on the same amount of the same brand). The right amount is whatever keeps you from craving fags.

I made it till morning!! Grin

Thank you all for reassuring me about vaping more than smoking, I definitely found last night that when I had my cig next to me and could puff at will that I didn't crave.

I'm drinking a lot of coffee though due to dry mouth.

Grin Well done! You might do better with a glass of water next to you rather than endless coffee though. The dry mouth seems to go after a week or two.

Allergictoironing · 25/05/2014 09:40

Well done Peanut! Grin

I find that milk helps the best with the dry mouth effect. Also, if you've been lurking on all the threads you'll know what other short term side effects to look out for & not be worried about e.g. coughing up gunk as the lungs start to clear themselves, oiler skin & hair as you adjust etc. These aren't vaping effects as such, but giving up smoking effects which you'd get whatever method you used.

magimedi · 25/05/2014 10:09

I'd also agree with drinking lots of water - really helps with the dry mouth.

Well done on not having a stinky!

It really is like a magic wand to cure smoking isn't it! Well done peanut Brew

sheandlifex · 09/06/2014 20:45

Well done! This is day one for me and I've not had a real fag. Thinking this thing is magic too as I'm not craving one physically, just psychologically.

Was today harder than yesterday?
