Sl*g to he specific. He was having a conversation with dp's brother, about a girl at school. The uncle awkwardly tried yo change the subject didn't knowhow to handle it. I wasnt in the conversation but heard it.

Horrible word i hate it!

Would you have pulled him up on it? Does it depend whos house you are in?!

Dp said he will talk to him. Im annoyed at myself for not saying anything at the time but i was shocked tbh!

It’s commonly used among teens. I absolutely pull them up on it and ask what they actually mean? If someone wants to have softener partners/sex, who are they to cast judgement? If they are treating partners badly, be specific and say that. Don’t use a lazy insult. Is the tack I take.

Headband · 11/12/2023 16:52

Yes I would have pulled him up on it. He needs a massive lecture on respect , I wouldn't let this drop.

ChateauDuMont · 11/12/2023 16:52

Was it used to describe a girl he just doesn't like or a descriptive term to describe someone known to have loose morals?

RecycleThie · 11/12/2023 16:54

Yes I’d have pulled him up on it. Sometimes I pull my kids up on things by pretending it’s a word I don’t know and asking what it means- having to explain it usually throws light on whether they should be using it.

Define "loose morals." And next let us know what rock you crawled out from under. JFC.

Cambridge dictionary- an offensive word for a woman who is thought to have had a lot of sexual partners

pizzaHeart · 11/12/2023 17:19

I would pull him up on it but calmly I wouldn’t go into it emotionally, @RecycleThie offered a good approach.

ChateauDuMont · 11/12/2023 17:22

@GrumpyPanda

It's a descriptive word. Some choose to be offended by it, others don't.

I probably wouldn’t, he’s 15, it wasn’t in conversation with you or intended for you to hear and it’d be common parlance. Did you never use negative terms for people you disliked at 15?

I don't think anyone would take it as a compliment Confused

I pull ours up on this sort of language. It's not uncommon at school but I don't want to hear it and they know why.

I wouldn't get in a flap about it though. There is only so far you can police the language of teens.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 11/12/2023 19:18

I'd absolutely pull my 15 year old up if he used it.

Maybe so. Plenty of kids call each other worse and it's not a capital punishment offence..
But I don't know I don't think other peoples shitty parenting choices are the bar that people should aim for and it's a term that is fairly misogynistic at best.

It's always disappointing when men do it but it's fucking worse when women use that term against another woman or condone that type of language like it's fine. Like another women's sex life is anyone else's business 🙄

If it was my son/daughter I wouldn't let that fly personally , even if it wasn't aimed at me or for my ears . But people have different values etc and raise their kids accordingly.
