Happy Christmas all you unsung stepparents out there.

The ones who work so hard make Christmas special and the ones who take a backseat and let the family have their traditions with their parents.

Blended or partially blended or never going to work blended so living apart together, we all work hard at getting this family thing right and knowing when to step back and when to step up.

Sometimes we will never get it right and sometimes it feels relentless but I hope you all have a Merry Christmas if you celebrate x

What a lovely message! I’d like to add my good wishes and seasonal hugs, and to let everyone know that however tense or even angry things are today, however insensitive and hurtful people might be, it really can get better.
Fifteen years ago I spent Christmas sobbing because none of my four teenage stepchildren bought me a present after I’d done all the shopping, cooking, decorating etc to give them a lovely family day.
Now they are some of my absolute favourite people and we are all definitely a family together.
And I got many many things wrong along the way.
Steer by your own star and there’s every chance it will come right in the end.
