3 weekends in a row

I know, I know, if mum died I'd never get a weekend without them. They are usually here every other weekend and for half the holidays. We've just had half term plus this will be the 3rd weekend in a row they've been here due to jiggling the schedule. I had plans for this weekend but they've fallen through so I realised this and my heart sank a bit. I just need a calm weekend. The whole house changes when they are here and it's exhausting hearing them bicker when I've had a stressful week st work.

Go out. Go anywhere

Am envious of your EOW arrangement. It's 3 nights a week in this house. Every week.

I would prefer week and have weekends to myself when I'm off work

I feel your pain. We have EOW and it's hard going when it turns into 3 on the trot. I never fully relax, I feel like I walk on eggshells a lot, even with my DH because I can't say anything about any behaviours etc without it being me 'always criticising them' which I don't. I bite my tongue A LOT. Me and our shared DC also end up taking a backseat which I've accepted but that doesn't mean I want to accept it every week!

Weezol · 04/11/2022 15:12

I'm glad you're going out. I would try and do this every so often and leave him with all three sometimes.
He needs to manage their behaviour. Kids that age will naturally bicker, is he just letting it go or is he dealing with it?

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 04/11/2022 15:17

@zebraprint12 it does eek into the weekend though. Weds eve to Sat eve.

I also think the term "weekend" is used loosely when it comes to step children - in any other setting the weekend is Saturday and Sunday. But when it's an access visit the weekend can suddenly be Thursday til Monday, which is actually a sizeable chunk of the week!

I know what you mean. Sometimes our "weekends" are Thursday to Monday night!

He tries to deal with it but its near constant sometimes.

Am in the same boat with 2 in a row (their mum is away), and this weekend is all 3. 23 yr old too. am meeting a friend later this morning and then I'll come over to you to watch a film with a bottle of wine and chill as a poster kindly offered to me on my post last weekend :)

Coffeepot72 · 06/11/2022 16:37

@sunshinesallday you still have scheduled access visits for a 23 yr old? Mind you, if DSS hadn’t gone to uni, we would have probably been in the same boat. Having him visit us wasn’t a problem, but I really wasn’t happy with the idea of a visiting rota for an adult! Where would it end??

pastabakeonaplate · 06/11/2022 16:41

Is that a rota for the 23 year old or did they just say they were coming? Do they warn you or do they have a key and just turn up?

It’s just always been EOW, and the 23 year old decided over the summer she won’t stay as much but usually stays EO EOW if that makes sense ie about 1 weekend per month. We weren’t expecting it until 3 arrived rather than 2 on Friday evening.
