Sadly, the last thread got a bit heated! Shame really, as it felt like we were all connecting a bit and being totally honest about the challenges of step-parenting!
So, who fancies just carrying on talking about step parent stuff? Dealing with the Ex is a part of that, so try not to judge!

Ladies what step.....shall we?

Satin that isn't on at all. Your children might see that not doing homework is more fun but they will appreciate how much you take care of them. They need a dad not a friend.

Ex has just text DH stating that DSS has a bday party and wants DH to take him (ExW can take him and has simply explained DSS has asked for DH). I have to work that day and the party is a one hour round trip at 5pm. Don't really want 6 month old in the car whilst it's cold and dark because DSS would rather be driven by dad. Is this unreasonable? Would be fine if I could be with DD but am back at work.

Drive there and back is 5-6pm.

ExW hasn't been demanding btw it's more I am wondering if IBU by asking DH to say no as don't want DD in the car for an hour in the cold and dark for DSS to go to a party (it is his mum's turn with him too so not DH saying he won't do his time).

Satin - I had the same with homework and whilst my kids were younger I'd just send a note into school saying 'apologies that x homework hasn't been done, they returned from their dads on Sunday evening without it having been completed.' I told him I'd done this - all bright and breezy, not in a confrontational way at all and it did the trick as he didn't want to be seen as the bad guy by the teacher.

Oh and I also got the kids to ask for their uniform to be washed. We had lunchbox-gate as well - ex and his mum (he sees the kids at his mums) for the life of them couldn't wash uniform AND sort (empty and wash) the pack up boxes!!
