Open day at step-sons residential college. Should we go? Special needs cross-over

This could do with being in Special needs section too.

dear stepson (dsd) has autism, and lives in a residential college for young adults. His mother placed him there, and deals with them, without reference to dh.

sds wrote to us last month, saying there is an open day on Sunday 10th Sept. I suggested to dh that we should go, dsd would like to see us there (I think).

Anyway dh has tried to contact dsd several times, but the only way is by mobile, and he doesn't switch it on very often. He hasn't replied to a text, but we don't know whether he reads them.

Last week dh left messages on ex-wife's answering machine twice, saying that we'd like to go. But she hasn't replied. Relations with her are not good, despite the fact that dh tries hard. She seems to want to cut him out now the kids are grown-up.

Anyway, I can ring the college tomorrow and ask about arrangements so we can go, but should we take the hint and leave it?

Definitely call the college and go. Your stepson's desire to see his father is the most important consideration here.
