question about wills, those of you with dc's of your own before you met dh

Dh comes home from work last night to announce he is updating his will.

Now when he dies, I get the house and joint accounts etc

Our 3 dc's get whats left shared between them, ie savings, assets etc

my 2 dc's from first marriage who's he's been father to for 8 and half years so far get nothing

I am so angry with him, I can't even begin to speak to him, he says when I die I can give my share to my dc's.

Am I being unreasonable?

His reasoning might be that your DCs can inherit from their bio Father as well as you whereas his have only the two of you. But it is quite insensitive in this day and age.

This is a reason why I'm not married to my DP. I want my DS from before to inherit from me as he has no-one else (no contact with ex).

their bio father doesn't give a toss about them, he has the money he has in his pocket on a day to day basis, he lives in council house that belongs to his girlfriend and exists nowhere.

Dh knows all this, they have no relatives with anything to leave them.

Have you discussed your DH adopting them?

Thenthey would have automatic inheritance rights.

Check some older posts here in step parenting about wills. There doesn't seem to be a set rule or recommendation. From working out who would get what overall in the absolute end, to deciding who gets what from the parent concerned only, to other formulas ....

One thing to think about for you is if you die first, then presumably he gets everything (unless you have a will), and then if he dies your joint DCs get everything and your 2 get nothing?
