The Marathon des Châteaux du Medóc, a themed race through vineyards in the Medóc region of Bordeaux, France, features nearly 20 wine tastings along the way. It draws 8,500 runners a year and tens of thousands more hopefuls on a waiting list.
Laura Visconti, a restaurant manager and sommelier in Oslo, had always wanted to tour France’s vineyards. “This is the most fun way of doing it,” said Ms. Visconti, 30, who had never previously considered running a marathon. “Why not?”
