Cost of grassroots football each month

My DS is 11 years old and been playing football for a small local team for a couple of years. The team is suddenly wanting to double the annual sign on fee and increase the monthly fees also! I'm just wondering what everyone is paying for their kids to be part of a football club? I pay £30 annual sign on with £25 per month subs for 1 training session in the park and 1 league or club game per week. Thanks.

That seems high.
I paid £30 to sign up (including 2 kits). £32 a month for 2 x training and one match.
Academy is £26 a month for 90 mins training a week and very occasional matches. This one is term time only and some months it's terrible value.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 25/01/2025 18:12

Ours is £20 a month and £40 sign up. But costs are going up everywhere so it’s bound to filter through, ours has a clubhouse and energy prices and rent have risen.

BearBuggy · 25/01/2025 18:13

No sign on fee but £35 pm for 2 training sessions and one game. We are Scotland so things tend to be cheaper. our club is most expensive in area

SweedieLie · 25/01/2025 18:13

£16 a month here (every month so x12 a year) plus a one off fee of £25 at the start of each season. One training session and one league game a week but the occasional extra friendly too. Includes match and training kits and hoody.

LittleMissLego · 25/01/2025 18:17

£25 a month. Training once a week, match on the weekend. No sign up fee

hby9628 · 25/01/2025 18:23

About £35 each term (runs according to school term), £3 each week subs. Sometimes we have to pay extra if pitch hire is required but it's rare & only often another £3 or so

£20 sign up fee and £15 per month for one match, one training session and an occasional friendly.

Kits cost £30 for shirt, shorts and 2 pairs of socks.

We have the occasional team building day, which we pay a token £1 for.

We pay this x2 and It’s good value for what the kids get out of it.

I'm in London and pay £12 per week (once per week session) and that is for a registered charity!

itsnotabouthepasta · 25/01/2025 18:41

Our is £120 each year and then we also have to pay £80 for winter training facilities. But that includes all kit, and each year the club funds the girls going to the women’s FA Cup final

Manchesterbythesea · 25/01/2025 18:45

In Ireland and we pay €100 for the year (soccer) and €5 every week at training. They get socks and shorts.
GAA we pay €50 a year and no weekly subs. No shorts/socks though.

Thanks for the feedback, the club is looking to up the prices to £65 annual fee plus £35-40 per month. Just don't know how they can justify this increase😒

We pay £160 for the year, this can be split into three payments of £80 in Aug, £40 in Sept & £40 in Oct. I’d prefer a monthly payment but over all it’s really reasonable. (There is also a discount for siblings, I only have one playing so can’t remember what it is).
This includes a home & away kit every other season. Once per week training and league match.
Occasionally we are asked to pay a couple of pound a week for training facilities if the council run ones are not available.

Businessflake · 25/01/2025 20:00

I think it’s about £450 for the whole season, training once a week and match fees. We’re in London.

Fuckthecamelyourodeinon · 25/01/2025 20:06

I hadn't realised how expensive football is relative to rugby (£70 for the year here - sept-may for games, july-aug training only)

GrinchoftheNorth · 25/01/2025 20:24

£25 to £40 per month here depending on age (14-18 being higher). Two x hour training sessions per week plus a match weekly. £30 sign up and £100 for 2 kits and training uniform

Redshoeblueshoe · 26/01/2025 00:07

Our local team £40 signing on, £10 per month, weekly match, weekly training. Left over ££ is spent on the children. So last week when it was snowing they went bowling. Club paid. End of season - meal out - club paid.

sallyannie46 · 26/01/2025 00:09

I suppose it depends on the team, facilities, cost of pitch hire and kits. These things can vary. It does seem a lot though. Ours is about £150 for the whole season.

Grapesandcheseseplease · 26/01/2025 00:11

Ours is £250 for the year for two training sessions and one match a week. I think it’s great value.

TartanMammy · 26/01/2025 00:14

Ours is £42pm plus kit which is usually around £3.

That's 2x 90min training sessions and a Saturday match.

More expensive that other local teams but no sign-up fee and no match day/referee fees.

£30 not £3

I think it must be more based on area as well, as we’ve had rugby league, union and football over the years and very little better them all.
