Football academy destinations post 18

Hi I’m after some advice. DS17 is in his first year as a scholar at a football academy He’s doing the extended BTEC in I think in elite sport. Realistically we know that the chances of a pro contract are slim He’s expressed an interest in seeking a post 18 uni scholarship abroad (states or Canada). Has anyone had experience of doing this.? What is the qualification they come out with and where do they eventually end up doing? Or anyone who has gone to uni in the UK and if so what subject? DS had relatively good GCSEs but tended to perform better in things like RE and history and not PE or science. Also interested in hearing any destinations ex scholars have gone on to. Even if they have gone straight into work. We want to start these discussions with DS in plenty of time so he does have a plan A/B/C. Thankyou!

Uni in the UK will depend on how many UCAS points he is expected to get, which will depend on his predicted grade. It will also depend on finding a course that accepts a points total rather than specific grades/subjects.
I know someone who went to USA for soccer college. She absolutely loved it and worked for them for a while as a UK based recruiter. Ultimately she ended up working in admin though!

Canada doesnt offer non academic scholarships at university. So it would be the US. He would have to take SATS and I’m not sure BTEC would be enough…..surely the club can help and have some contacts?

US universities have sports scholarships and the club academy should know the routes to get into one. Try First Point USA for info. The Fulbright Org has info too. You need the academics so look into this. It’s not easy.
