Hello! Question to all the mum who kids play for a real academy, the one who you don’t pay! Like Leeds united academy or Sheffield academy, Barnsley academy exc…
my son (U7) got scouted from a match in his local team. Our coach give them my n and they called and offered us a trial 4 training sessions and 2 matches. And after that’s “we will discuss “.
Right now we are much over the 4 training sessions and 2 matches but coaches just said keep coming don’t worry.
I don’t know how this works, after few training something will happen? Like a contract or like an official enrolment or we will just keep going to train with them? Or one day they will just say don’t come?
I’m afraid to ask tbo.
anyone with experience in real academy please advice!
have a great day x

It's not typical for them to give contracts before u9's but being asked to train with the squad etc is an amazing opportunity and the best way 'in'. I know of a child who did similar with Man Utd recently. After 7 months of travelling a 90mile round trip for training, they were given a contract for u9's. I know of others who have done similar with other clubs too.

Normally you get a six to eight week trial and they tell you at the end. We were told face to face my son was anccepted and then all of the paperwork followed (wow there was a lot of paperwork!).

If he hasn’t been told they are probably still evaluating and it can go either way. A kid who used to play with my son had a trail extended (Category 1 Academy) and was signed after 10 weeks. Another didn’t make it.

Asking about it isn’t going to change their minds on his performance. If they say don’t worry then just keep going until they say otherwise.

U7’s is VERY young and I would be a bit cautious. This is serious football and it’s hard mentally for a lot of kids.
