I have really mixed feelings about this game.
IMO the Dutch are stronger so I would not like them to progress
BUT
IMO Turkey is not a European country and has no place in this tournament (for reference, Israel also has no place) - it's geography

Turkey played better and were stronger imo.
They are as European as the Russians, having land on both continents.
It was a lovely and exciting match to watch. Both quite fast paced teams.

Tbh I'm a bit fed up with the Gareth hate.

We've had many years with excellent talent and yet have gone out at earlier stages and played boring football.

Gareth has achieved more than any manager since Ramsey. People are quick to forget how bad it used to be.

Totally agree!

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2024 10:32

Predictions for Wednesday? From those more informed than me.
Didn't one England manager once say ' I don't like orange !' Could be a tough one

Kayrel · 07/07/2024 11:51

So TAA got caught saying one of the England players didn’t want to take a penalty. Fair enough.

But even more respect to the young guys that took on that level of pressure. Including Saka who got so much abuse last time.

Oblomov24 · 06/07/2024 22:20

Loved the GS lifting saka up high!

Haha yes that was lovely!! So sweet 😍

Maggiethecat · 07/07/2024 18:21

How refreshing it is to see countries supporting their team, cheering them on through thick and thin.

I cannot work out booing your team even when they are dismal?!

Saka will be relieved now, bless him but God forbid he should put a foot wrong next game/s.

The press have a lot to answer for too. Look at the photos of earlier games with the headlines criticising the team’s performance- whose photo often featured? Saka’s

And knowing the abuse he endured the last Euros.

Disgusting!

Arconialiving · 07/07/2024 19:33

I agree @Maggiethecat - I've never understood the mindset of booing your own team either. Baffling & seems to be a peculiarly English thing!

kiterunning · 07/07/2024 19:43

Booing is not just an English thing.
I was in Berlin when Austria beat NL and there was plenty of booing.
Same with the French supporters who have been just as frustrated with their team.

Arconialiving · 07/07/2024 19:47

I've never noticed it from supporters other than English ones but maybe I've just not paid attention enough.

Regardless of who is doing it, it's still ridiculous. The supporters should be the 12th man, not make the players feel crap at an already bad time!

I love that thought, that supporters should act like the 12th man of the team 😍

kiterunning · 07/07/2024 20:16

I love to see fantastic support but suspect that the emotion can be overwhelming for
Inexperienced teams.
Scotland and Turkey definitely had the best support in Germany.

Maggiethecat · 07/07/2024 20:43

@kiterunning - sure they’d rather be overwhelmed by positive support than booing.

kiterunning · 07/07/2024 20:59

Well obviously but it can create it's own pressure.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 07/07/2024 21:12

Never booed personally but you can sense after a certain performance or result that it is is coming. Especially if the performance has been dreadful which saw quite a few Chelsea performance last season. And when the players come out and address does show they listen rather then shrug it off. Wherever it helps who knows but sometimes can fire teams on for the next one.

kiterunning · 07/07/2024 21:15

Yes it probably depends on each player's individual temperament.

kiterunning · 09/07/2024 13:25

Just seen that it's 31 degrees in Dortmund this afternoon but drops to 25 tomorrow with a chance of cooling rain. Phew!

DuncinToffee · 09/07/2024 19:38

Any predictions for tonight?

I think Spain will win

duc748 · 09/07/2024 19:47

Me too!

DuncinToffee · 09/07/2024 19:50

1-0 Spain

kiterunning · 09/07/2024 19:52

Hopefully Spain but maybe France will find their form.

burblish · 09/07/2024 19:52

Hard to bet against Spain

TheSleepingGiant · 09/07/2024 19:56

Spain for me too

Cadela · 09/07/2024 20:02

I’m hoping France win because on the very slim chance we win tomorrow I’d rather play them. Unlikely though on all counts!
