F1 2023 - Watchalong thread

At the moment it's pre-season testing and they are in Bahrain as that is where the first race happens

Is anyone watching the preseason testing at the moment?

Anyone follow the WTF1 personnel change over the past few weeks (social media channel) and that Tommy & Matt have set up P1 with just Matt & Tommy as co-owners?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what progress the other teams have been able to make since RBR had their wind tunnel time reduced due to their overspend in 2022 (that was their punishment for doing that).

I like Teddy K but Martin is still my fave.

@LookItsMeAgain 😅I was agreeing with a PP.

I'm genuinely laughing out loud here! I didn't check back to see who else had posted on the thread. It's works though for Ted Kravitz too though (I hope 😂)

I agree.

I know he hates doing the grid walk but Martin is such a good sport to do it.

BBC are reporting that Bridgestone are putting in a bid to be the tyre supplier from 2025.

I assume they are bidding to be sole supplier rather than giving teams the choice of 2 suppliers.

I remember when they had 2 suppliers, it made for some interesting races, including Indy 2005 where only 6 cars raced.

JeminaPudd · 17/06/2023 19:07

The grid walk is my favourite bit. I cringe and yet love it.

Brazilianadventure · 17/06/2023 20:53

They are talking about inters, not good for the mercs but good for a mixed up grid.

LookItsMeAgain · 17/06/2023 21:07

Are the marshals using the red flag for things that really should be fine under double waved yellows?

Evening F1 MN viewers. 🚗

Teddypops · 17/06/2023 22:18

Evening! Let's hope it dries up a bit tomorrow!

Sulusu · 17/06/2023 22:33

Huuuuuulkenbuuuuuurg!

To quote Danny Ric.

Nice to see Nico on the front row. I predict Alonso will be past him before the first corner though. More rain forecast for tomorrow, hopefully makes for an interesting race.

Brazilianadventure · 17/06/2023 22:39

I agree Alonso will be second very quickly. I wonder if he can challenge Max.

Please for Hulk and Alex. Good results like that highlight their skills for the teams further up the grid.

Sadly Hulk doing so well is probably one less place for Danny Ric in 2024. I am struggling to see where he will go - Alpha Romeo?

I know he’s the owners son but Lance’s time must be up. Yes he has good races but there are just too many mistakes.

Danny will get Checo's seat if Checo keeps putting in poor performances. Helmut Marko is ruthless when drivers aren't performing.

Teddypops · 17/06/2023 22:59

Lots of pissed off drivers!

Yeah don't think I have heard Gasly get so cross on the radio before!

Brazilianadventure · 17/06/2023 23:08

@Sulusu I agree Helmut is ruthless and DR looks refreshed and raring to go. Hopefully the July test will show where he is compared to the sim.

JimnJoyce · 18/06/2023 11:15

Im looking forward to Danny Ric's alternate commentary today with Will Arnott.

I bet that's going to be fun to listen to. I don't think I can follow it though as I only have Now sports and not Sky. So Crofty and his "Sky Q or Sky Glass" line is going to annoy me today.

Sulusu · 18/06/2023 19:47

Yeah. I'm not watching any more of this race. It's too late in the day for an easy Verstappen win and dull DRS trains behind me. I was nodding off watching.

JeminaSunshine · 18/06/2023 20:26

It's boring AF

Brazilianadventure · 18/06/2023 20:48

Well done Alex, hopefully Williams can build on this.

Sulusu · 18/06/2023 20:52

Alex Albon getting driver of the day was the highlight for me. Well earned.

chopc · 18/06/2023 22:33

So we may have to sell one of our weekend general admission tickets to Silverstone. Does anyone know how I could go about doing this?

LookItsMeAgain · 19/06/2023 08:29

I had great hopes of listening and watching along with Daniel & Will but I lost interest very quickly when Will kept trying to make a joke of being able to pronouce "Grandstand" so I went back to Crofty & Martin!

It was yet another snooze fest at the front with Max so far ahead. All of the action was from position 2 down. I loved seeing Lando getting his elbows out and really challenging for positions. Still don't understand why he got a 5 second penalty for "unsportsmanlike" conduct behind the safety car.

Anyway - 2 weeks to the Austrian GP.

Pleased for Albon but felt a bit sorry for Hulk after he did so well in qualifying. I enjoyed the battle between Hamilton and Alonso for the minuscule amount of time it was happening.

JimnJoyce · 19/06/2023 08:48

Yep i also quickly switched back Danny Ric was not doing it for me at all
