Best swimming costume brand

I swim 4 or 5 times a week and have worn Speedo costumes for years, in part because I know my size so can order on internet knowing it will fit. However, I'm finding that the costumes 'bleach' really quickly. My current costume started bleaching almost immediately and has become very thin to the point I think it might tear. I don't think it's the water as no one else's costume seems to be deteriorating.

Can anyone suggest a decent brand. For info I'm a size 14 to 16, quite long in body. Thank you.

No idea how long it will last but just bought a Slazenger boy leg one piece and really impressed so far, fits brilliantly, covers everything and doesn't ride up or fall down and fabric feels thick and good quality.

Was getting so fed up of feeling like my boobs were about to fall out or getting a wedgie while slimming lengths.

Walkingtheplank · 30/06/2021 00:37

That sounds good

Just going to bump this as I need to buy a costume today. I've just out 9n existing costume and it has gone very thin just since yesterday morning!

Zoggs are tougher

They have thicker and thinner ones, but if I swim once/twice a week, the thick one lasts about 2 yrs

Am 6ft, no issue with body length

They have chlorine proof ones

Walkingtheplank · 30/06/2021 10:16

Thank you. I went for a swim this morning and was worried that the thin area would tear - the shame!
Will take a look at Zoggs as something needs to be ordered today!

LandEnd makes great quality, durable swimming costumes.

I've had a couple for years. Look at their website and see their "Tugless®️"
range.

I haven’t bought one of these yet but saw them recommended - really like them

I've worn those Slazenger boy leg ones for years, and though they don't last an awfully long time, they are cheap enough that I don't mind. Currently though, my pool costume is a DHB leg suit from Wiggle which seems to be lasting well, and my go to nicer costume is Deakin and Blue which was £££ but looks gorgeous and you can really swim in it.

worriedandannoyed · 30/06/2021 13:17

My kids have swam for years and con confirm they've worn zoggs ones many times over and they stay the same colour and don't go thin

Kjr33 · 30/06/2021 13:25

Tyr, funkita, arena. Look on pro swimwear or swim path. Also are you using any detergent when washing the suit? It’s best to just do a really good rinse (I use the rise and spin cycle on my machine) I think there is something that goes wrong when you mix chlorine and washing detergent that causes problems.

Rshard · 30/06/2021 13:25

Dd is a swimmer and favours a brand called funkita. Either google the brand for stockists or try allens of Kingsbury, they’re very good. If you’re swimming that often you need a sports costume not a clothing brand.

I totally agree with this. I swim several times a week and they literally last years. They come in a tall fit too (on the size selector).

Speedo suits in the Endurance fabric are ok, but I have to size up to get the body length.

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 01/07/2021 21:19

Look for costumes made from Econyl, it's very durable. I've got one from Deakin & Blue which fits well and is like new (I swim three times a week). They're not cheap though.

Tallpaulwho · 01/07/2021 21:23

Arena swimsuits. I used to train a lot and they always lasted really well without any chlorine damage. Not cheap though.

Aquamarine1029 · 01/07/2021 21:25

I have worn Land's End for years. I'm 6' tall and have never had issues with length. Their stuff wears like iron. I love the swim shorts and vests.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 01/07/2021 21:31

I usually have Zoggs, but after forgetting to pack one when away I bought a Tesco sports one, and it's actually very good quality — supportive at the bust, comfy straps and nice material that's lasting well. I'd happily buy another.

Reallyreallyborednow · 01/07/2021 21:33

Dc swim and their Tyr ones are good. Speedo do “endurance” ones which last much longer if you like the brand.

I find chlorine resistance comes at the expense of the fabric stretch though, and they aren’t as comfy.

I factor in the cost of them lasting about 6 months and pick up cheap from ebay or proswimwear etc.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 12/07/2021 19:46

I absolutely love Adidas for comfort.

The cut just works for me.

I do find that I absolutely have to rinse costumes afterwards and this prolongs the life considerably.
