5km in 30 minutes - what next?

shall I try and improve my time for the 5km or shall I run for longer?

I'm in my early 50s, I used to do a 24/25 min 5km (off road, undulating) in my 30s, I have the time to run further.
It's all about enjoyment and the health benefits now. I'm not looking to prove anything to anyone.

Shall I try and go faster or go further do you think?

TIA

further I think will be easier

Why not both? I don’t know how often you run but surely once or twice per week you could aim to improve distance and once or twice per week work on speed?

I'd go further. You can get more interesting runs out of it. You'll get bored of 5k before long

My female boss is around your age (probably a bit older) and does a sub 20min 5k. If you like running 5ks you can keep going to try and improve your time. Alternatively try 10ks?

thanks for the replies.
You're right Dafspunk, I should aim for both but I can't run too often as I have an old lower spine issue that needs careful management.
I've got bland about exercise in general lately and I feel the need for a specific challenge at the moment.
I think the 10km is going to be my target for now but I will include shorter faster runs into my schedule so hopefully I'll chip away at the 5km time too.

Cherries, that's awesome. A dear friend of mine, also close to my age, does a sub 19min 5km and a sub 3hr marathon. Believe it or not, in our younger days we ran together Grin
She's gone one way with her running and I've gone the other Smile

Off to find a 10km programme now.
