Tour de Yorkshire, Cambridge...and oh yes France as well!!

Bike T minus 35 days and counting, to the Grand Depart from Leeds 5th July, with two stages in the White County, and then a third from Cambridge to the Mall in London. It's just soo exciting! It's the biggest biking event in the world, with approx 190 professional riders in about 20 teams racing across tarmac and cobbles, up mountains and down Dales and ending on 27th July on the Champs Elysee, Paris in the now traditional sprint finish there. So here's the thread to share in it all, swop info about accommodation for Tour watchers, road closures, the parcours (courses), peloton gossip, potential meet ups, tv coverage, who's got the nicest legs etc.. and everything to do with the thrills and occasional spills with the event that is a game of poker played out every day on 380 wheels. OF course if you are a newbie to all of this and are curious about the whys and hows of racing then ask and someone will pop up to answer questions. Hopefully.

So I'll depart here next with the routes of the UK 3 stages being taken so no-one gets lost and ends up in the dreaded broom wagon. Bike

Still in a pickle of a head to work out if seeing the tour at home is feasible so whilst my brain slowly ticks over here is something more entertaining to look at Chris Froome looks at stems GrinBikeGrin Totally stolen from an MN friend of mine who posted it on FB.

SeaShellsMyDogTrulySmells · 12/06/2014 23:22

Place marking...only just reregged after we all got asked for new passwords. Sorry! Hello :)

LostInWales · 13/06/2014 07:25

Hello!

DramaAlpaca · 13/06/2014 10:04

Hello SeaShells, welcome to the MN peloton Smile

HowGoodIsThat · 13/06/2014 14:24

It has been confirmed that the route will be open to cyclists up to 30 minutes before the caravan is due to arrive. There is a mad group setting off to do Stage 1 on the day itself. They are going to leave Leeds at 4am to see if they can get round before the caravan catches them. Barking.

The Chris Froome Looks At Stems is genius. I laughed out loud.

Does this warrent an annual outing? I hope so - I kept my name all year.

SeaShellsMyDogTrulySmells · 13/06/2014 18:58

I love that blog!! How does he navigate?!
My dh has Jens Voigt as his ring tone and text alert "shut up legs". He is v proud of it :D

I love how close you will be Pan! We won't be going - kids too young really for a long schlep up to Yorkshire, but my son had all the maps up in his room, and they are off to watch the local youth omnium at the local velodrome, so brainwashing well under way.

What is the MN verdict on Froome?

SeaShellsMyDogTrulySmells · 13/06/2014 18:58

Its toilets all the way for DH. He stupidly chose a Wayfinder role so I have no sympathy. - a lesson in being careful what you ask for.

He has just got back from riding the final section of Stage 1 from Leyburn to the finish - he got up at 5:30am this morning to go and reccy. He says the last couple of km are going to make for an awesome finish.

HowGoodIsThat · 14/06/2014 13:17

oops

Bike

sorry - still woozy in the head.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 14/06/2014 14:21

Yay to being On the route and not In the toilet.

I think the finish could be interesting as it's not flat. There's a hill up Ripon Road , then down a bit, then up Parliament Street almost to the finish.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 14/06/2014 14:22

Bike Bike Bike I always forget these.

SeaShellsMyDogTrulySmells · 14/06/2014 15:52

HowGoodIsThat that's fab news!

How good was today's stage!

LostInWales · 14/06/2014 16:48

That's it, one giant teen free to a good home, I spent the last couple of hours driving him around and missed the cycling. Buggeration.

HowGood I am wel jel GrinBikeGrin but tell me you aren't really still concussed, I am going to get worried!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/06/2014 16:58

Pan - do you know if we will be able to drive up onto Holme Moss (assuming we set off from Glasgow in the middle of the night, and get there early enough) and park up, or is it going to be totally closed to cars? If so dh and I will have to find somewhere else, where we will be able to park close to the route (I can't walk far).

Panwearsjaune · 14/06/2014 17:00

Mixing England v Italy this evening and biking, today I've been singing:

"It's coming home,
It's coming home,
It's coming,
Cycling's coming home"" Grin

I have no English in me but there'll be a little Eng-er-land flag on the telly top and my Scottish footie mate is bringing the Skinner and Baddiel record. You've gotta find pleasure where you can!

Feeling uncharitable enough toward CF to be quietly pleased. In a mean-spirited sort of way.BlushBike
