Bike T minus 35 days and counting, to the Grand Depart from Leeds 5th July, with two stages in the White County, and then a third from Cambridge to the Mall in London. It's just soo exciting! It's the biggest biking event in the world, with approx 190 professional riders in about 20 teams racing across tarmac and cobbles, up mountains and down Dales and ending on 27th July on the Champs Elysee, Paris in the now traditional sprint finish there. So here's the thread to share in it all, swop info about accommodation for Tour watchers, road closures, the parcours (courses), peloton gossip, potential meet ups, tv coverage, who's got the nicest legs etc.. and everything to do with the thrills and occasional spills with the event that is a game of poker played out every day on 380 wheels. OF course if you are a newbie to all of this and are curious about the whys and hows of racing then ask and someone will pop up to answer questions. Hopefully.

So I'll depart here next with the routes of the UK 3 stages being taken so no-one gets lost and ends up in the dreaded broom wagon. Bike

Is David Millar commentating for itv?

Panwearsjaune · 05/07/2014 09:39

That's the word isn't it? I'm recording ITV, if only as I love the accordion music in breaks - and I'd love to have it as a ring tone.

We've now had a night in Yorkshire (Wilsden way). Ds and dh have gone out this morning with our host and cycled to and up the cobbles in Haworth. Ds loved it Bike - skipped up the hills. Dh wasn't so keen - apparently ended up walking part of (doesn't like going slowly with cleats 'cos he might fall over Wink)

We're leaving shortly to go up Skipton way. We're parking up and then cycle the rest of the way.

Look out for the blue Glasgow Riderz tops! SmileBike

It's here. Bike Bike Bike I will be watching on Eurosport mostly over the Tour but that's because I have the app on my iPad and that's the only way I can follow it at work.
No problem with spoilers either, my twitter feed is pretty much live commentary on its own. Grin

Matt joins in the celebrations

I'll be watching out for you too, prettybird - do you have some knitting to wave, to help me? WinkGrin

I am parked on the couch, ITV4 on the TV, all ready to revel in Stage 1 - with my fingers firmly crossed for a good start for Froome, and a stage win for Cav!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/07/2014 10:56

Pan - I think you could get the accordion music as a ring tone in previous years - if they offer it again, I will be getting it for sure!

LostInWales · 05/07/2014 10:59

All excited watching at home but I'm all on my own . Just seen Cav interviewed on Eurosport, when asked if this was his 'D Day' he said no because a lot of people lost their lives on D Day so this wasn't the same. What a lovely, lovely man.

Oooh, ta

They look like such thoroughbreds don't they, so fit and healthy and ready to ride a couple of thousand miles. God I'm so tempted to just jump in my car and head north, although it looks like the rest of the country got there ahead of me Grin.

ariadneoliver · 05/07/2014 12:03

And Jensie is off on a breakaway already. Go Jensie

LostInWales · 05/07/2014 12:37

Love, LOVE Jens for not letting us down (plus I looked cool in front of the boys and their friends for predicting it a minute before he went) Grin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/07/2014 12:57

They are close to Skipton - I haven't spotted prettybird yet. >

DramaAlpaca · 05/07/2014 13:22

Is there any room left on the sofa Losty & SDTG? Just shove that whippet over a bit...

SeaShellsMyDogTrulySmells · 05/07/2014 13:31

I'm online! Phew. So Jensie is on a breakaway yes? Looks amazing out there

Primadonnagirl · 05/07/2014 13:35

frostyfingers · 05/07/2014 13:41

Phew - found you, thanks SDTG - it really should be on the Sporting Events list MNHQ!

Been stockpiling all my ironing for days so that I can justify having the telly on all day, but have so far yet to get out of my chair except for essential nutrition.

Just seen the yellow sheep - fabulous! Fingers tightly crossed for Cav for later..

LostInWales · 05/07/2014 13:48

Yorkshire is really doing them proud isn't it, so many people and coloured in sheep Grin.

Got my boys home now so they are joining in the sporting fun by playing tennis in the lounge .

DramaAlpaca · 05/07/2014 13:49

Great to see all the crowds at the top of the climb.
