Tour de Yorkshire, Cambridge...and oh yes France as well!!

Bike T minus 35 days and counting, to the Grand Depart from Leeds 5th July, with two stages in the White County, and then a third from Cambridge to the Mall in London. It's just soo exciting! It's the biggest biking event in the world, with approx 190 professional riders in about 20 teams racing across tarmac and cobbles, up mountains and down Dales and ending on 27th July on the Champs Elysee, Paris in the now traditional sprint finish there. So here's the thread to share in it all, swop info about accommodation for Tour watchers, road closures, the parcours (courses), peloton gossip, potential meet ups, tv coverage, who's got the nicest legs etc.. and everything to do with the thrills and occasional spills with the event that is a game of poker played out every day on 380 wheels. OF course if you are a newbie to all of this and are curious about the whys and hows of racing then ask and someone will pop up to answer questions. Hopefully.

So I'll depart here next with the routes of the UK 3 stages being taken so no-one gets lost and ends up in the dreaded broom wagon. Bike

Letsgo you have to avoid the BBC News site as well for spoilers, couple of times last year I was caught out.

And this thread of course....

We had managed 267 miles with 2 hrs to go on day 1 so surpassed our target considereably in a single day! I think we'll be tracking how far into france we get. I managed c. 45km - not a lot compared to some, but it was a contribution to the overall amount. Seat bones very bruised now... taking a cushion tomorrow!!!!

Jensie predicts carnage on Stage 2 York to Sheffield

mistlethrush · 03/07/2014 23:33

Compared to the 'normal' fairly flat stages through northern France its going to be very different.

LostInWales · 03/07/2014 23:36

Love Jensie, 'keep the rubber side down' yup, sounds like good advice for any grand tour, or bike ride actually Grin.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 04/07/2014 07:46

Jensie sounds like he has a plan for stage 2....

Well done Mistle! Bike

Very excited! Am still contemplating camping at Holme Moss but it's £90 which seems a bit steep... Probably going to end up going to the hub in Hebden Bridge. It's hard to work out where to watch without dragging kids up hill & down dale, plus Northern Rail haven't put the necessary trains down...

I am SO excited

Only just found this thread - sport not usually my thing! My DP's boss has invited us to stay in a b&b near Ribblehead tonight and tells us we are going to watch Tour in Leyburn. I can't imagine how, as all road will be closed surely? Recording whole day to watch on Sunday!

Loving the buzz around Yorkshire!

DramaAlpaca · 04/07/2014 10:48

Well done mistle!

Getting so excited now. Watched bits of the very badly presented presentation yesterday evening.

It all starts tomorrow!!!

I am beyond excited! Joining in with the party in Leeds and Harrogate tomorrow, then singing with my choir at the gala dinner in Harrogate in the evening! It will be such a buzz!

Only one day to go!! Not that I am excited at all - oh no. Calm and cool as a cucumber, me! Grin

mistlethrush · 04/07/2014 13:22

I like the change in sizes of bikes as you look to the end of the line SDTG - very good perspective. It started to feel more 'real' yesterday when we had to leave the city centre early (or face getting stuck in the office due to road closures) and all the crowd barriers are going out up around the route - some people have put bunting up and wrapped their trees in yellow ribbons. There's even one person who has their own 'grandstand' view, having erected scaffolding that is just above the height of their gate - they've put bunting up on that too. They should have a very good view but would be a bit stuck if they wanted to go out with the car!
