Almost here....how's the training regime going?

The first of the three Grand Tours, Tour of Italy, departs from Belfast with a team time trial from the Titanic shipyard, before a second day riding round the North, and then a third day from Armagh to Dublin centre, and then a flight to southern Italy and few weeks easy riding up through central Italian Apennines, over the Dolomites and a cruise through to Trieste on the Adriatic coast. No problems then...

Some useful links?

Overall route and maps

The understandably excited local Belfast press

and a bit more general fuss

Most of the usual pro-cycling suspects will be competing, and returning for the Tour de France Yorkshire in July.

Before all of this though there's a few 'classic' races to be had, but we can put those to another thread? Nothing else should get in the way of 3 days of professional racing in the Irish sunshine.

Likewise AriadneGrin

DramaAlpaca · 10/05/2014 18:58

Thanks Cremola, we are installed in a pub so DH can watch the Ulster v Munster match. If we were at home he'd be at Thomond Park now. He's annoyed that he forgot to pack his Munster jersey Grin.

CremolaDItalia · 10/05/2014 19:01

Omg did you see the horse riders across the beach alongside the peloton? Brought a tear to my eye...

CremolaDItalia · 10/05/2014 19:17

pics here

angelinterceptor · 10/05/2014 21:01

Amazing day - capped of by seeing ourselves on Eurosport when we came home to watch the whole race over.

Cant believe its nearly over, early start tomorrow morning to get to Keady 'mountain' before the roads close.

Panwearsrosa · 10/05/2014 21:54

So what did I miss?GrinBike. Straggling again!

Panwearsrosa · 10/05/2014 21:55

Need to do a fast forward....BikeBike

DramaAlpaca · 10/05/2014 23:03

Off to Dublin tomorrow Smile

Panwearsrosa · 10/05/2014 23:10

Wow! What a day to miss. Isn't Antrim just stunning? It reminds me a bit of my own Peaks, but it seems on a much more dramatic scale. And the crowds stood around in the pouring rain in pink and having the energy to cheer and run, and the horses were majestic and the riders had the hammer down for just about all of the v long stage, and the effort to speed out of that final turn, and and and and

Belfast and the North all wear the chapeaux.Bike

CremolaDItalia · 10/05/2014 23:33

Pan we are SO lucky. It has been a real honor to have the race in NI.
Looking forward to watching the next bits on telly. Shocking weather- just as well we're a hardy lot.Grin

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 00:08

Tomorrow will be the day for me to see most live stuff and so intend to make the most of it! Well done DA for getting down to the Fair City, and angel traveling south! Hope logistics work out.Bike

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 14:14

How are we all doing? Bike Rain in Dublin, oh well! Hope to see some more beautiful country side.Bike

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 14:15

And I bet Belfast looks very different now.

LostInWales · 11/05/2014 14:17

Dosed up with tramadol so I feel in tune with the peloton and hoping my Dublin friend will take my advice and go with her boys to see them fly past their road. Fingers crossed no bad falls on the damp roads.

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 15:00

So far uncontroversial? And very very wet.Bike

LostInWales · 11/05/2014 15:08

Just a little bit of road rash, on his face! OW poor man, that must be horrible. It is like a pleasant mooch about the countryside at the moment, roads closed, big gang of mates hanging back for each other if needed. Probably a nice leg stretch before the transfer to Italy and some snowy mountains!

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 15:19

Ooooch! They seem to be being v careful over all don't they? Giving plenty of space in the peloton, slowing at tight bits and as if they just want it over.Bike

LostInWales · 11/05/2014 15:30

Can almost hear them saying 'just get to Italy safe ' over and over as they peddle. Feeling very dissapointed in the commentators, telling me Matthews has obviously come down at some point because he is missing a large bit of bum cheek covering Lycra yet not showing me the evidence? Pah.

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 15:35

oh another one. Dreadful.

CremolaDItalia · 11/05/2014 15:36

Oh pan that looked nasty. Can't believe Cameron continued - he looked wibbly

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 15:38

Mild concussion? He looked punch drunk. Just ride slowly for 30 ks, matey.

CremolaDItalia · 11/05/2014 15:45

Satellite meltdown again

We have has no broadband in central belfast because of fibre optic collapse fuelled by the giro press vans!

LostInWales · 11/05/2014 15:46

I hate that so much, want to rush over and make them stop, let them know a bike is no where near as important as their heads.

LostInWales · 11/05/2014 15:47

The giro stole your internet Sad
