F1 silly season

It's getting very silly now with these rumours of Alonso going to Red Bull- can't see it happening. I hope it won't be Kimi either. Seb needs a good number 2 behind him, someone that won't challenge him for the championship. I reckon Ricciardo is Red Bull's best bet.

No, I watched it too, just forgot to post the other day. Seems like RB have a lot of work to do before the next test- I still think it's a bit early to write them off though.

Thank goodness! Was beginning to feel like I was talking to myself - although should be used to it as DCs switch off when I talk F1, or moan if I tell them how many days it is to the start of the new season as it means that they don't get to watch their choice on the telly on a Sunday. DH is interested and watches every race and as many practice sessions as poss, but is not quite as keen as me, so I suppose I should be grateful.

We watched Rush at the weekend on Box office, Saturday night and then again on Sunday. Wasn't expecting a lot from it as thought it may be a little too 'Hollywood' with actors playing the parts of Lauda and Hunt, but it was really enjoyable.

The Senna film was just footage from the era which I absolutely loved as there was no way things could be reinterpreted, it was like stepping back in time and living through it all again with the added benefit of access to the drivers meetings and such - there is a new film due out next month called Formula 1 which from the blurb I have seen so far seems to follow the same format, so will be buying that I suspect.

Looking forward to seeing what RB have done since Jerez when they get to Bahrain, I don't see their being slightly behind as a major obstacle because of the amount of resources they have to plough into getting it all right - although suspect that there will be a bit of re-grouping going on in a few teams with all the changes in personnel.

am marking my place as thread disappeared from TIO

EauRouge · 10/02/2014 11:20

Mine too.

Did you read about that Lotus tweet? Too bad they had to delete it :( Only sponsor-approved opinions are allowed in F1!

tee hee, perhaps they are practising for when Maldonado starts his wild accusations about something or someone! Still chuckling about the claims that he made when at Williams where he said someone had messed with his car!! Cant wait for season to start again, but at least I can now say that it is next month.... excited? - you bet!!! I. can't. wait.

On a lighter note, DH & I were watching the McLaren P1 on Top Gear last night, Jezza took car to Belgium and surprise, surprise, ended up driving it around Spa Circuit recognised Eau Rouge straight away on the teasers (Jammy b***d - they got to drive around Monte Carlo & Imola, over the last couple of series). Car went like a scalded cat - DH and I were highly amused as the P1 handled the circuit better than last years F1 Car did - shame McLaren didn't use that for their race car - they might have won the Constructors and Drivers championships if they had!!!.

EauRouge · 14/02/2014 08:09

That P1 was pretty special, wasn't it? The whole of the bit where he was in Bruges I was shouting 'go to Spa! Why aren't you going to Spa?' Grin

Have you seen this? You know it's nearly the start of the new season when JV does his annual 'F1 isn't as good as it was when I was in it' statement. I get what he says about the drivers 'lacking personality' but it's been like that for years. Remember when he had that massive argument with JPM and they were threatening to take each other out in the race? That was brilliant. Maldonado will probably do something like that soon

Seen any of the Promo films yet? Mercedes one with Lewis and Nico is really good - on skysports website at the moment, as is the Lotus one with Romain and Pastor, also worth a look.

Looking forward to Bahrain practice later in the week - Renault seem to have ironed out problems in their engine as Lotus reported they had done well with their running (used one of their promotional days allowance) to make up for loss of practice at Jerez). Remains to be seen whether RB have done as well with their issues with the car.

News re Schumi a little unsettling, Bild are usually fairly accurate with their sources, so am hoping that it is just a 'blip'.

EauRouge · 14/02/2014 13:26

Just watched them. The Mercedes one is very good Grin Lotus one a bit cheesy.

Have you read about Sauber's latest signing?

Just seen article, maybe the start of something new then, along with the other changes!!!

StyleOverSubstance · 18/02/2014 08:42

Bumping for Bahrain!!

EauRouge · 18/02/2014 08:54

I can't wait to see if/how much RB have improved their car.

I've started a fantasy F1 thread here.

StyleOverSubstance · 19/02/2014 00:10

OK Eau will mark my place on new thread - where is everyone? Usually a fair few posters on thread............

EauRouge · 19/02/2014 08:45

I think the thread must have dropped off their 'threads I'm on', don't they do that if you haven't posted for a while? I'm sure some more people will post when the season gets closer, if not in the next couple of days with the testing on.

OP posts:
Frettchen · 19/02/2014 11:04

I'm still here, although it had dropped off my TIO list.

Am stuck at work, so I'm dipping in and out of the BBC text coverage of today's testing. Will have a look at the Fantasy thread on my lunch break, but am almost definitely in! The only real F1 fan I know is my dad, so we've split the drivers between us to see who gets the most points.

Ooh; Seb's done a lap...

EauRouge · 19/02/2014 11:45

Seb's done a lap? In the car or on foot? Grin

OP posts:
Frettchen · 19/02/2014 12:02

I was almost feeling sorry for the Red Bull team what with all this not-actually-driving they've had going on. Then I remembered their recent history of utter domination and how suddenly the double-points final race makes all the difference to a potentially poor opening and all my sorry-feelings disappeared.

They've got some catching up to do though. So far today Lewis has clocked up 70 laps whilst Seb's just made it to 7.

No sign of the Toro Rosso car yet today, so although Red Bull are having the most reported-on problems, they're not alone in their technical difficulties; their sister-team is right there alongside them.

(and as I typed that, Kvyat has just left the garage, making a liar of me!)

EauRouge · 19/02/2014 12:30

Ooh, Hulkenburg's just done a lap that is faster than Seb's fastest lap time in last year's race.

OP posts:
EauRouge · 19/02/2014 13:20

Aaaaaand Vettel's stopped again.

OP posts:
Frettchen · 19/02/2014 13:38

Unbelievable - I pop out to get lunch and miss not one but two red flags!

Bad day to be driving a Renault-powered car.

StyleOverSubstance · 19/02/2014 18:52

Yayyyyy! Good to see you all back again!

Eau ha, ha!! love that - Seb's done a lap - in the car or on foot.
Who would have thought it eh? After their domination of the last few years, they appear to be really struggling with both power train and car. Wonder if it is going to be a sign of things to come or if there is an element of sandbagging going on. The clock is ticking........ season starts next month........

Have been watching the BBC live thread on and off through the day with interest. Think this season is going to be a really interesting one - despite some of the 'mickey mouse' rules like the penalty points and the double points.......

StyleOverSubstance · 20/02/2014 10:36

Disappointed watching the Sky Coverage last night - DH and I settled down to watch the two mini programmes and the day 1 coverage consisted of a chat with Dan Ricciardo/Johnny Herbert from last year about the Bahrain circuit and some other dribs and drabs of mini programmes before the start of #ask crofty came on. Checked programme info and that said it was the updates of day 1, but we couldn't find anything anywhere so had to settle for just watching the #ask crofty programme, which is not a patch on Teds Notebook. Have set planner for it again when it is repeated today, so will see what happens then. Good thing I was using the good old Beebs live text to keep up with news. Am just about to go back onto it to see what the outcome of Mr E's court case is, as it will influence the outcome of the next case greatly, apparently.

Frettchen · 20/02/2014 11:04

My favourite comment on the BBC coverage this morning is this;

The Red Bull mechanics are clearly still erring on the side of caution. Sebastian Vettel returns to the pits and as he does so there are one or two mechanics waiting with fire extinguishers tentatively aimed at the rear.

I'm picturing it as a comedy routine! Actually, it reminds me of a moment in the first Iron Man film where he's just re-making the suit and his robot things are stood by, fire extinguishers at the ready.

StyleOverSubstance · 20/02/2014 11:08

Court case decided in Mr E's favour - so that puts things in a more favourable light for him for the next round of cases!.

YY Fretchen RB mechanics with fire extinguishers made me smile too!! Suspect RB will be getting on to the errant fire truck driver from last seasons race and asking him if he would mind driving round all the circuits this year (officially) - 'follow that car!!'........ tee hee.

Frettchen · 20/02/2014 11:31

That or their big delivery this morning included a sprinkler system to be fitted into the car. We'll see Seb getting a long run in, trailing a spray of water.

The Ecclestone verdict is very interesting. Constantin Medien are going to appeal, but assuming that fails, it's got to have an impact on April's court case.
