Painful spot getting infected - what to do?

Hello all. I’ve named changed due to embarrassment…

Many months ago I developed a blackhead in a pore right between my breasts. I know. Ugh 😩 I tried squeezing it out but couldn’t do it and so I left it alone, as I didn’t want it to get inflamed. I just kept washing carefully but it wouldn’t go. After a while I tried those plasters that are meant to draw things out, but no success. It’s on my bra line (underneath), and I think that hasn’t helped.

Until about a week ago it’s just been sitting there apparently doing nothing but suddenly the area is painful and I think it must be getting infected. It seems to have grown into a small cyst-like thing, but still just looks like a blackhead sitting on top of a pore (i.e. not yet red and horrible).

What can I do? Might that mag sulph paste help? I’ve just ordered some from Amazon after reading round here a bit, but I won’t use it if it might make things worse. Is there anything else you could suggest?

Here it is 😢

Can someone squeeze it for you?

BastardtheCat · 25/03/2026 22:22

I’ll squeeze it for you.

<serious>

wandawaves · 25/03/2026 22:26

Oh that is so squeezable!

spottychangeling · 25/03/2026 22:26

It’s really too sore for squeezing now, though thank you for offering 😬

Although… Do you think I should maybe try the hot flannel thing and then have a little squeeze myself? How about the mag sulph cream?

Oooo I had one like that in a similar spot. Even though sore I squeezed but nothing happened. One day I was at work and realised it was throbbing - looked down and there was a yellow head. Was so excited but could do nothing as in class. It sat there throbbing away until it suddenly stopped. Looked down and it had burst. There was a snake of yellowy orange puss trailing between my boobs and it was screaming for a final squeeze. I don't think my Year 9 class would have appreciated me sticking my had down my bra so had to leave it. It fizzled out by the time I could get to it. Was devastated.

shellyleppard · 25/03/2026 22:38

Op could you try a hot flannel then squeeze with clean tweezers?? I wonder if it's an ingrown hair??

Besidemyselfwithworry · 25/03/2026 22:40

OMG I’d have to squeeze that!!!

GOATYOAT · 25/03/2026 22:41

I had a sebaceous cyst that looked like that. Almost like a piece of grit sitting in a pore. It became inflamed and a line of white stringy stuff came out. Very difficult to remove as they have a sac under the skin which fills with gunk.

Sudocrem does wonders for sore lumpy spots with or without a head. I was with a flannel the hotest water tolerable before, then keep putting the sudocrem on day and night

I had one on my flaps. It grew to the size of a large broad bean. I was going to lance it with a new scalpel blade as I was terrified of the Dr seeing it.
One day I was in the shower when I was hit by the most evil stench; it had erupted and green puss was snaking down my inner thigh.
A few years later I got another blighter on the other flap so I made a hot compress and put that on my fanny before stabbing the head of my boil.Worked a treat.

Its a 3rd nipple growing 😆 🤣.

Seriously, it looks really sore. Hope it pops soon.

Torchout · 30/03/2026 20:46

Much as I have the urge to squeeze , that's probably why it has got worse. Mot of us fo it wrong and it should be squeezed upwards.

TeflonMom · 30/03/2026 20:50

Please take lots of photos for us if you squeeze it!

Hello all. A quick update!

Sod’s Law being what it is, I had to fly to Ireland on Friday for a long weekend to see family. After taking pics on Thursday the bleeping thing became swollen and clearly infected overnight and I’ve had to wear my bra all weekend with the bleeping thing rubbing on it. Nightmare! By the time I was home last night it looked like a third breast, let alone a third nipple 😂 All purple and horrible and the size of a very large grape. Anyway, I rang the GP y/day afternoon to see if they would consider antibiotics. They told me to go in this morning to see the GP who specialises in dermatology (lucky!). He took one look and said it was an infected sebaceous cyst. I’ve just been back this afternoon to the larger surgery where he gave me five injections (!) and then lanced it. It’s now covered with a dressing. Phew! He said that if in a few months it seems the capsule is still there I should go back and they’ll either remove it or refer me to the hospital to have it removed. So, it’s worked out in the end.

Here is the best photo I could get of it y/day to send to the GP, but it’s much larger than it looks in this piccy 😀 Thank you all for the advice 👍 Had I not had to go away I’d have done the hot flannel and some kind of cream to try to draw it out, but I think I’d have ended up having to go to the GP so nothing lost. (Looks like I may need to make separate post with the pic.)

I would 100% have gone into the office next to my classroom and had a squeeze!

Blimey OP, did Ordnance Survey express an interest in measuring that? What a whopper, well done.

redsquared · 31/03/2026 16:01

A couple of years ago I had a huge under the skin spot on my forehead right at my brow bone of my left eye, next to my nose at the for a couple of weeks. It was a couple of cm across and not getting any smaller and I could feel the swelling at my eye. I went to the GP, lifted my fringe and she immediately wrote a prescription for an antibiotic. Not sure if that was due to the location i.e. in the "triangle of death" or the impressive size of the bump.

If it isn't going away see your GP.

Ooh that’s a beauty. I bet loads of gunk came shooting out of it when the doc lanced it

Yes! I tried to look down to see what came out but unfortunately my neck wouldn’t allow it 😂
