My son won’t let me at his spots

My 13 year old has recently got a very spotty forehead. They are small at the surface type spots including few blackheads perfect for extraction with an extractor tool (which as a true sporner own) or pair of cotton buds. Bad pic attached snapped while he was gaming, while wearing a headband as he’s aware getting air to the area will help clear them up Grin. No amount of bribing has allowed me at em - well he will be bribed but asking an insane amount of over £200!! My husband is not helping telling him to resist my persuasion at all costs. Obv I have no right to these spots but damn it’s frustrating and wanted to vent amongst those who’d understand.

Leave the poor boy alone

Way to make him feel self conscious OP!

Fgs posting a photo of your 13 year old’s spotty forehead.

Zempy · 02/11/2025 15:35

Yeah my DS stopped allowing me to pick his spots and blackheads when he was about 14. 🥲

MrsEMR · 02/11/2025 15:39

I do feel for you. My DD29 still allows me access to any spots that appear. Although she refers to my extractor as the “instrument of torture”.
I think Dr Pimplepopper recommends a salicylic acid face wash to clear these types of spots.

Teenage spots, I remember having loads of spots and blackheads when I was 16-years-old. I also had a girlfriend who loved squeezing them.

Young love or something

This. Just stop. Awful.

idratherbedrawing · 02/11/2025 16:37

Of course I know I need to leave him alone, though the temptation is hard! Posted on sporner corner to get sympathy from fellow sporners. Shouldn’t have posted the pic, just wanted to illustrate how perfect for a bit of comedone extractor action his forehead is Grin

And you asked him if ok to post the pic and start a thread about him?

DickDewey · 02/11/2025 17:39

My eldest stopped letting me squeeze his. I was devastated. He would however, agree to a monthly facial with my facialist at my expense. £72! He would let her perform extractions - even in his ears. 🤨

I don’t know if it was the bespoke facials or the end of hormone-induced sebum overproduction, but after about 4 sessions, his skin was clear and he never had another spot or blackhead. He’s in his early 20s now and definitely has a penchant for good (expensive) skincare. This is entirely my fault.

The youngest would let me gouge to my heart’s content. Sadly, he’s had about three spots in total.

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 02/11/2025 23:35

Acnecide would clear this up quickly and prevent further issues.

Focus on what you can buy to actually address it

The spots may really dent his confidence is you’re not careful

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 03/11/2025 07:44

It’s so distracting when you know you won’t be able to sort them out! I have to really focus on ‘normal’ eye contact and behaviour, and sit on my hands!

but You can

by researching and purchasing appropriate treatment

I’ve told 10 year old Ds that it’s the law to let me get his blackheads when he gets them. He likes watching pimple popper vids with me so hopefully he’ll let me.
I get it OP. I think some on here are on the wrong topic!

Megifer · 03/11/2025 12:58

I feel your pain. My DS has a glorious blackhead on the side of his nose that would pop right out but hes winding me up saying hes keeping it as a pet and hes even named it 😭

I keep looking all forlorn at my tool roll with all the extractors and scoops in it, glistening, waiting to fulfil their destiny......

TeddySchnauzer · 03/11/2025 13:00

Do NOT squeeze spots! That is how you end up with acne scarring and pock marks ffs

BCSurvivor · 03/11/2025 13:04

OP, I'm embarrassed on your son's behalf, having a mum who posts a photo of his forehead online and complains that he won't let her pop his spots.
You're going to destroy his self confidence.

JudgeBread · 03/11/2025 13:07

Christ I'm glad I grew up with a normal mum who wouldn't post pictures of my spotty forehead on the internet to be scrutinised by a bunch of strangers 😬

ComfortFoodCafe · 03/11/2025 13:07

Wow, what a great way to ruin your childs self confidence. Top parenting there.

Branleuse · 03/11/2025 13:45

YaNbu
Have you tried financial bribery?

Mumdiva99 · 22/11/2025 09:06

My son won't let me help in anyway with his skin. I've tried buying nice face washed and he refuses to use them. There is no way he would let me pick or poke even one - and I would massively improve his skin if he let me. When my husband and I got together I sorted a cyst on his back - although it was pretty Internet and dr pimple popper - so I had no idea what i was doing! - he never lets me pick anything either. What's the point of having family if they don't let you pick?

Don't be silly. It's not as if he's remotely identifiable.
